Property Tax bills arrive and taxes goes up again

Lakewood residents recently received the 2106-2017 preliminary  property tax bill and to no ones surprise taxes have gone up. The tax rate went up to 2.930 from 2.835 last year. The Municipal portion remained the same at .0861 per $100 assessed value but the school, county, and Fire district taxes all went up. The school district taxes were raised by the allowable increase of 2%. It went from 1.403 last year to 1.449 this year. Fire district went up from .058 to .070. County increases went from 0.434 to 0.466. All in all homeowners will be paying on average an additional $100 per 100,000 of assessed value. A home assessed at 400,000 will pay close to $400.
