Central Ave Traffic Woes: Uncovering the Hidden Agenda (Submitted)

The ongoing construction on Central Avenue has transformed our daily commutes into prolonged ordeals. Notably, the evening closures between Sunset Road and New Central Avenue, projected to last for two weeks, have been implemented with minimal communication from township officials.

Compounding the issue, the recent changes at Central and Caranetta have only exacerbated congestion, adding to our daily frustrations.

But here’s the bigger issue: our local representatives have been completely silent—and that silence speaks volumes. Many believe this mess is tied to a highly controversial housing development that’s quietly being supported behind the scenes. The township appears to be prioritizing infrastructure for that project, while letting the rest of us suffer the consequences.

What's more alarming is that our local representatives seem to prioritize the interests of developers, daycare owners, and nursing home operators over the needs of residents. Instead of addressing these pressing traffic issues, they divert attention to less critical matters, like debating scooter bans.

This situation underscores the urgent need for **ward-based representation** in our township. Currently, officials are elected at-large, meaning they aren't accountable to specific neighborhoods. By transitioning to a ward system, each area would elect its own representative—someone who truly understands and experiences our daily challenges. This change would ensure that our voices are heard, and our concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.

It's time for a government that genuinely represents its people, not just powerful special interests. Let's advocate for a system where every neighborhood has a dedicated voice at the table.
