-Letter posted in shuls from Rabbonim of the Sefardi Kehillos in the greater Lakewood area, to bring to the attention of the Sefardi community an important matter concerning kashrus standards and halachic practices as they relate to Bishul Yisroel.k9 mo k
Aside no u is well known, Sefardim who I l 88 follow the psak of Maran HaRav Yosef Karo theNeis Yosef, require that a Jew actively participate in the cooking process by placing the food on the fire or heating source. This differs from the halachic ruling of the Rema, followed by many Ashkenazim, who permit Bishul Yisroel by simply igniting the flame. Many food establishments in Lakewood operate according to the Ashkenazi standard. Therefore, foods from such establishments may not meet the Bishul Yisroel requirements according to the Sefardi psak, especially when it comes to reheating or preheating food that would otherwise be subject to the prohibition of bishul akum. Prominent Sefardi poskim, including Maran HaRav Ovadia Yosef zt”l, have clearly ruled that relying on Ashkenazi leniencies in this matter is not acceptable for those who follow the halacha according to the Beis Yosef. They  urge members of our kehillos to be vigilant in maintaining proper kashrus standards and to ensure that food—especially in public simchos, catering, or restaurants—is prepared in accordance with Sefardi halachic requirements.

- Giyus: Some Chareidi parties in the Knesset are once again threatening to halt their support for coalition-sponsored legislation unless progress is made on a bill that would officially exempt yeshiva students from military service. Netanyahu held a conversation with Yuli Edelstein to brief him on recent security developments. The two also discussed the draft legislation regarding the chareidi exemption during that call. Edelstein said that he intends to revisit the framework with chareidi leaders in an attempt to make “improvements” to the current compromise.

Rabbi A.D. Motzen, of Agudah, said that though disappointed, “we are not giving up.”
Nathan Diament, executive director of the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center, stated that the cut was a “very disappointing setback for millions of American families seeking educational opportunity and affordability.”
Rabbi A.D. Motzen, national director of government affairs at Agudath Israel of America, told JNS that the Jewish advocacy group will consider alternative ways to push the legislation forward. “While we are disappointed that the Senate parliamentarian attempted to remove the scholarship tax credit from the reconciliation bill, we are not giving up,” he told JNS.  “Agudath Israel is working with its coalition partners and Senate allies to overcome this challenge,” he said. “Congress still has an opportunity to enact a tax credit proposal that will help millions of children.”
