Eight Republicans have tossed their hats into the ring to succeed James F. Lacey on the Ocean County Board of Freeholders next week according to the APP.com, the report says according to county Republican Chairman Lakewood Republicans made it clear that it was time one of their own was appointed to the county's governing body. Lakewood's Justin Flancbaum, the executive director of the Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority is vying for the spot. Republican leaders panicked, wrote the APP article, who elsewhere, are dealing with increasing vitriol over the expansion of Lakewood’s fast-growing Orthodox Jewish community into neighboring towns such as Toms River and Jackson.
