Lakewood and Houston, when Hurricane Harvey flooded the city of Houston it brought out the best of us. In no time Lakewood residents mobilized to bring relief to the stricken areas of Texas. It is a bit surprising and sadly disturbing about the press coverage in various Lakewood media outlets. In articles written about how much chesed was done, they omitted and ignored the fact that Lakewood Chaveirim Volunteers were on hand to help load the trucks that went to Houston. Not only did they get no credit but it looks like they made sure not to have any picture identifying anything about Chaveirim. Im sure these selfless chaveirim members are not looking for publicity or even asking for kavod but if these media outlets claim to represent the Lakewood community its a bit shocking they leave out this important fact when reporting about the Lakewood Houston relief. We have a wonderful community of organizations and volunteers who give up their time to help others. Stories of Chesed in times of crisis should bring out the best of us and not do the opposite. Both the Yated and Hamodia had beautiful articles of the chesed that poured in from around the world they mentioned the effort of Lakewood Chaveirim. Our local press should do the same.
