School registration season for elementary is in full swing. What used to be an easy application to one or two schools, today's Parents are faced with a choice of schools to choose from. They apply to 3 0r 4 schools and there's no guarantee to get into any of them. There are lots of schools to choose from, but parents are confused as where to send, or even where they have a chance to get in.
Its even more challenging to new parents as it is hard to get information and navigate the maze of applying for schools. Previously Mrs. Krieger a''h would be the go to address helping parents make a decision as to where to apply, today there is no system in place guiding or helping parents in making a decision.
Perhaps schools can set up a seminar with school principals were parents can come and get information on the chinuch curriculum and other factors, so that they can get a feel and make an informed decision. Once they decide on which school there is still no guarantee of getting in. Those without pull or protektzia may not have a choice they just have to hope they get in somewhere. The first batch of acceptance letters was sent out while others still wait. There is no longer one type of school that everyone can go to the current choice of schools confines us to a particular "label". We created different levels of yeshivish, Heimish, baal habatish, Chasidish etc.. which compartmentalized us as a society and limited ourselves to fit in anywhere.
