BOE to ask Lakewood Township for a $1.2 Million Grant

Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles confirmed to the Lakewood shopper that the Lakewood school district requested a 1.2 million grant from the township. The mayor said that it was to be discussed at the Township meeting of August 16th. The money would go to tutoring programs and self contained classrooms. The township has recently gave millions of tax money for courtesy busing, sports programs. On the agenda of the BOE meeting for tomorrow Aug, 29 there is a resolution  that the Lakewood Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to request Emergency Aid in the amount of $1,566,821 to equal the amount of reduced state aid for the 2018-2019 school year and.
No mention in the resolution who the request will be made to. The state already gave Lakewood a $28 million loan for the deficit.
