The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a video that allegedly shows an open beer can in a police chief's duty vehicle. NJ.com reports The video was originally posted on Snapchat and purportedly shows the inside of Lakewood Police Chief township-issued Chevy Tahoe. No one is seen during the brief clip. A spokesman with the prosecutor's office said officials are aware of the video and are investigating its authenticity. Under state law, it's illegal to have an open alcohol container in a vehicle, whether the vehicle is on a highway or in a parking lot. The first offense is a $200 fine.
New Jersey Corruption Watch posted the video, which they say was given to them by an anonymous source, on Facebook.
The video, taken from the driver's perspective, shows an open can of Yuengling Light in the vehicle's center console cupholder and a slice of pizza on a paper plate. The vehicle is parked near Romeo's Pizza in the Raintree Town Center in Freehold.
Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles said he had no comment on the video until he has had a chance to review the allegation.
