Over the last few years Lakewood has experienced many challenges b"h mainly due to its explosive growth.  Quality of life has changed from a quiet suburbia to a busy city with traffic congestion and sky rocketing property taxes. Speak to anyone you meet ask them how long it takes them to get from point A to point B compared to just a few years ago.
How many hours a day are they wasting sitting stuck on the roads. How many daily car accidents. Speak to young couples who cant afford to buy a home  anymore in Lakewood.

You would think there would be a listening ear or at least an attempt to fix the problems and take on the issues. Instead, they cleverly embarked on a campaign of deceit deflection and diversion. How can we continue to fool the tzibbur with slogans catch phrases and articles that we care about them but at the same time ignore their plight and continue lining our pockets. Instead of tackling and trying to fix, they put time and effort and money to keep themselves relevant and stay in power.
They cleverly created a narrative of playing up the anti semitism card, something that was ignored and not taken on for 15 years. Thousands of residents came and spoke up at the masterplan meetings and the majority who had no financial gain all said a resounding NO to the proposed density. The committee members promised No Density, yet they went ahead and approved it. NOt only did 4 0ut of 5 committeemen approve but they left out important clauses that the Planning board put in. There was no mention of widening Cross street from Massachusetts to route 9. There was no mentioning of fixing rt 9 or charging impact fees to developers.

The governing body  who are elected and representative of the people have all but ignored the general needs of the public, the will of the community only to favor special interests and those who control them. They promise one thing in front of you and than behind closed doors do something else. Yet, they continue to put out fake news articles about how great they are highlighting stories of kindness that they did. The parshiyos we read now talk about the trickery of  Esav and of Lavan, lets hope that we continue in the ways of our forefather yaakov תתן אמת ליעקבץ

Reporting on a Lakewood Development

NJ.com reports on the Eagle Ridge development, the article stuck to the facts but naturally garnered over 100 comments since its about Lakewood. It should keep the Vaad Media arm busy.

From NJ.com  GDMS asked for a settlement hearing with the DEP and was given the green light for a scaled down, but still massive, project. That dispute resolution "was held behind closed doors," said Donato, one of the top land-use lawyers in the state. "The public was kept out. It violates every standard of due process I can think of."

TBL-
OPRA records  reveals how the township committee is duping the Planning Board and perpetrating a huge scam on the Lakewood Community.

From Take Back Lakewood
Tuesday night Nov 21st the Planning Board is slated to vote on the Final Master Plan. On October 25th they voted to 'approve' the Master Plan subject to numerous revisions. T&M then took the liberty to pick and choose what to implement in the final version which has not yet been voted on!! Whether or not the Planning Board agreed with the final document - they had no choice! In the Interim, the Township Committee has already voted on ordinances to implement the bad parts of the Master Plan without the good parts!!Guess what? Although the Planning board voted to only allow zoning changes after the impact fees have been implemented in the entire town, and only after numerous changes were implemented including Route 9, the Township Committee ignored all that! The Board voted that we need Cross Street widened all the way to Route 9 and the Township Committee ignored that change! We'll be stuck with the bad parts of the Master Plan without the good!!! The board voted to improve all of Pine St and James and Prospect etc and the Board chopped those out!

The Township Committee is passing ordinances based on a Master Plan that is not yet done!! Everyone's worst fears are being realized as we will have increased development with minimal improvement to our roadways!!

The Trailer Ban

Jackson Leaks.com
In September 2016, Jackson passed Ordinance 21-16 forbidding the non-residential use of trailers (i.e. “office trailers”) in every area of town except under very limited circumstances. One is still allowed to have trailers on their property for the purpose of living in them though. Was this request in response to a rash of businesses popping up in trailers around Jackson?  In his “travels” through “several different communities”, said the Mayor, he had noticed that trailers were being used by “congregations of different faith based groups” to “accommodate needs”. An ordinance must be passed to prevent the “possibilities of it happening here”. Essentially, not in response to trailer problems in Jackson at all, but as a preventative measure against religious use
seen in nearby communities. The final ordinance reflects his observations about the ways in which certain “faith based groups” employ trailers and restricts only non-residential use of trailers. But, if trailers are the issue, why not make an ordinance that limits the size, number and placement of any trailers in Jackson regardless of use.

Also, which faith based groups and what nearby communities? It doesn’t say, if only there was a way we could figure it out…Read more at Jackson Leaks

Howell PD Release Video in response to Article

A Lakewood couple were on the way to the hospital to have a baby. The wife was in Labor and her husband was speeding to get there. They were stopped and ticketed on Squankum Road by a Howell Police officer.
In response to the story that was posted on the Lakewood Scoop website, Howell PD issued a press release along with a video of the body worn camera from the police officer giving the ticket.

Press Release with video link From HTPD in response to an article released by the Lakewood Scoop about a motor vehicle stop of a Lakewood couple on Squankum Road.
This statement has been prepared in response to a few inquiries our agency has received regarding the details of a motor vehicle stop conducted by one of our officers. An internal review was conducted, including a review of video from the vehicle and body worn camera. The civilians’ names have been left out to protect their privacy.
On November 14, 2017 at 11:57pm, Howell Police Department Patrolman Anthony Marotta #179, conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2010 Toyota Sienna on Route 547 (Squankum Rd.) between Maxim Rd. and Old Tavern Rd. for speeding (78mph in a 50mph zone).
Ptl. Marotta approaches the driver and requests driving credentials as the operator explains that his wife, who is in the passenger seat, is in “advanced labor”. Upon receiving the documents the operator explains that the doctor told them to go to the hospital. Ptl. Marotta explains that he was stopped for doing “almost 80 in a 50”. This exchange lasted about forty seconds.
Cpl. Marotta returns to his vehicle, fills out a summons for speeding and returns to the operator’s vehicle within six minutes of the initial conversation. As Ptl. Marotta approaches the operator he asks him if they would like an ambulance to respond to the scene. The operator and passenger decline and ask for a police escort, which the officer properly declines as that would be a violation of departmental policy. He asks the occupants again if they want an ambulance, to which the female passenger in labor responds, “No I do not want an ambulance”. The officer responds, “Are you sure?” and she replies “Yes”. Ptl. Marotta again offers assistance stating, “I can call them and they can at least follow you or take you up there”. The female then calmly asks the officer if they can “just go” to which the officer responds “Ok” and gives the operator instructions on calling the court regarding the summons. He also cautions the operator on speeding on the roadway adding to the risk of getting in an accident and not getting to the hospital especially, “tonight there’s a lot of deer out”. Ptl. Marotta insists on calling an ambulance but they decline again. The operator states, “She’s not pushing yet just broke her water”. The operator, not the officer, then prolongs the stop asking who he can call to “explain the situation” and address the ticket despite reports to the contrary. The entire stop from start-to-finish took 9 minutes 29 seconds.
The interaction during the stop was polite and respectful. Both the operator of the vehicle, his pregnant wife and the officer were calm, respectful and courteous to one another. We certainly understand how stressful the moments leading up to birth can be, especially on a woman, and we commend them for their respectful demeanor under the circumstances. However, the officer acted appropriately and any suggestion that the officer’s conduct was improper, unprofessional or inhumane simply contradicts the video evidence.
We are happy to hear the occupants arrived safely at the hospital and had a successful delivery. We wish them the best.

Lakewood Committeeman To Yated: There is No Way I could've Voted Yes to the Master Plan

Committeeman Issac Akerman tells the Yated Ne'eman Newspaper last week why he could not vote yes on the Master Plan.
"There was no way I could've voted yes to the plan, People walk up to me all the time and beg me to vote no to higher density. These are the people who voted for me, and it is my duty as their committeeman to do their bidding.
He added that although the master-plan calls for widening Route 9 and other main thoroughfares, the solutions are not yet in place. "I believe that we should first implement the road improvements, and then we will be able to assess accurately how effective they are. Only then should we plan additional density. Its a shame that there was no referendum put on the voting ballot that would have put the power in the hands of the public to decide whether or not to approve higher density.

Hamodia: Harav Zev Tikotzky zt”l

LAKEWOOD -Hamodia  By Mordechai Wincorn

Harav Zev Tikotzky, zt”l, a noted talmid chacham who was marbitz Torah to hundreds of talmidim for decades and a talmid of the Mirrer Yeshivah during its sojourn in Shanghai, and later of Harav Aharon Kotler, zt”l, was niftar on Wednesday, 4 Kislev. He was the father-in-law of, ybl”c, Harav Malkiel Kotler, shlita, Rosh Yeshivah, Bais Medrash Govoha of Lakewood, and was in his late eighties.
In his hesped, Rav Kotler described his father-in-law as the epitome of one who is “yoshev b’ohel shel Torah.” “He didn’t have [worldly possessions], and he didn’t want them, for him everything was in Torah,” he said at the levayah held Wednesday afternoon in Bais Medrash Govoha.

“His only desire was to learn Torah … from the time he attached himself to the Mir Yeshivah, he decided dos iz dos [this is what life is about].”

Rav Tikotsky was born in Germany to Reb Avrohom Yehudah, z”l, and Mrs. Rochel Tikotsky, a”h, circa 1930. Reb Avrohom Yehudah was among the many
Jews arrested by the Nazis on Kristallnacht. Upon his release, the family swiftly fled the country. They found refuge in the remote Jewish Ghetto of Shanghai, which over the course of the war would become a temporary home to thousands of refugees fleeing Europe, including the talmidim and Rebbeim of the Mir Yeshivah.

Despite his youth, young Zev took full advantage of his proximity to the elite collection of bnei Torah and attached himself to the yeshivah in exile, spending most of his days in their adopted beis medrash, the Beth Aharon shul. He was taken under the wing by some of the group’s prominent members who saw to it that the young German bachur was paired with chavrusos who would help him to develop what was an obvious desire for growth in Torah. His years spent there left a lifelong impression on Rav Tikotsky, who would make what was then a rare choice: to commit his life to toil in Toras Hashem.

In later years he would relate the experience of sitting with a small lantern and learning the Sefer Kuzari late at night and making up his mind to dedicate himself to being mevakesh emes. While placing most of his efforts in learning Shas b’iyun, he would retain a lifelong affinity for and develop a command of sifrei machshavah.

After the conclusion of the war, Rav Tikotsky immigrated to the United States. In America, he joined the newly re-established Mirrer Yeshivah for a few years, before going to Lakewood in 1949 to study under Hagaon Harav Aharon Kotler, zt”l.

In Lakewood, Rav Tikotsky thrived among what was then a small but elite group of talmidim as he absorbed the brilliant and probing shiurim of Rav Aharon, with whom he formed a strong bond.

In the mid-1950s, Rav Tikotsky married Rivka Finkel, the daughter of Mr. Max Finkel, z”l, who was also originally from Germany. The choice was a brave one, both for the young kallah and her parents, as the decision to marry a ben Torah was far from fashionable at the time. Yet, his father-in-law-to-be declared to those who questioned the shidduch that a good businessman knows to buy “when it’s cheap,” expressing his confidence that his “investment” would steadily rise in value over time.

Mrs. Tikotsky would steadfastly support her husband’s choice to dedicate himself to Torah, accepting a modest material existence with joy and a sense of pride.

The couple remained in Lakewood for a few years after their marriage before relocating to Brooklyn, where Rav Tikotsky joined Yeshivah Chaim Berlin’s Kollel Gur Aryeh. Eventually, he would return to the Mir, now as a Maggid Shiur, a position he held for many years. There he began what was a long and fruitful career of harbotzas haTorah, imparting his chochmah and palpable ahavas haTorah to generations of talmidim.

In the mid-1970s, Rav Tikotsky and his family moved to Eretz Yisrael for a period of time, as he delivered shiurim in Yeshivas Itri in Yerushalayim. After his return to the United States a few years later, he served as a member of the hanhalah of Yeshivas Adelphia and later Mikdash Melech.

In the years since he had retired from teaching Torah formally, Rav Tikotsky continued to pour all of his efforts into plumbing the depths of sugyos haShas with the enthusiasm and dedication of a kollel avreich.

Rav Tikotsky’s tefillos were marked by the seriousness and care that he had seen practiced by the great baalei mussar of the Mir. Blessed with an ability and appreciation for neginah, his “Ma Yedidus” and other zemiros were sung with tremendous passion, occupying a unique place in his avodas Hashem.

Notwithstanding his tremendous hasmadah, when hearing of a fellow Jew in financial distress, he often threw himself into the task of raising the funds needed to improve his situation.

Those who were privileged to know Rav Tikotsky recalled his sincere smile and “chein.” Rav Kotler affectionately mentioned in his hesped that despite his pleasant manner, his father-in-law was never one for small talk. “He would ask how is everything, but soon after, asked me what I was learning and brought up a kushya to discuss.”

In recent years, Rav Tikotsky and his Rebbetzin had re-settled in Lakewood. Over the past few months, Rav Tikotsky’s health had begun to decline.

Following the levayah in Lakewood, the mittah was scheduled to be brought to Eretz Yisrael for kevurah.

Rav Tikotzky is survived by yblch”t his wife, Mrs. Rivka Tikotsky; brother, Harav Ahron; sons, Harav Avrohom Yehudah, Harav Yosef, Harav Moshe, Harav Ahron, Harav Gavriel, and Harav Eliyahu Yitzchok; daughters, Mrs. Rochel Finkelstein, Mrs. Chana Leah Kotler, Mrs. Liba Weiss, Mrs. Shifra Krancer, and Mrs. Michal Handler; as well as by many grand-children and great-grand-children.

Yehi Zichro Baruch.
