Jackson Leaks: AG Subpoena to Jackson Townhip

JL:As mentioned in the Township Council meeting last week, Jackson Township is now under investigation by the NJ Attorney General and the US Department of Justice for passing certain laws targeting Orthodox Jews. Later in the meeting, permission was granted for the construction of an eruv in Jackson using attachments to utility poles as part of a preliminary settlement in a lawsuit brought by Agudath Israel against Jackson.

Below is the subpoena sent to the Township by the Attorney General’s office, requesting documents and communications related to Ordinance 03-17 and Ordinance 04-17, which prohibited schools and dormitories in most zones in the
town, and Ordinance 20-17, which removed the mechanism for exceptions to be granted in an old and “seldom enforced” right-of-way ordinance thereby effectively blocking previous requests for an eruv. see more at Jackson Leaks

In News that can only be dubbed as classic Chanuka vintage, Turkey’s President announced that it will move its embassy to East Jerusalem, the future capital of Palestine – Just as you thought Trump’s Yerushalayim proclamation pushed Israel past the finish line.
The timing here is not happenstance – the “pach shemen” or cruse of oil’s message, resonates, Bayomim hohaim Bazman Hazeh.
World events don’t hinge on political clout – The menorah exhorts us all, when Hashem wills it so, it’s lights out! Jewish history plays tricks on the dead – the likes of Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan and the rest who lived from the immediate moment.
The Hasmonean legacy of “veal hamilchamos she-asisa laavoseinu” debunks air force general, Tamir Eshel’s assertions that the new F-134 plane yields “unimaginable military power”.
It intones, Israel military Braggadocio is to reality, what Babe Ruth is to Shakespeare. The I.D.F. is currently eager to share the wealth of culture it espouses with the Torah oriented. Instead Chanukah’s revelation intervenes: Put aside the F-135. Why not share the stealth – the knowledge that a higher source writes the script of civilization in the Mideast – not some top Israeli brass from the land of bilk and money.

A few years ago, they interviewed an archeologist on Kol Yisrael about the Hasmonean period. Afterwards they asked, “aich ata chogeig Chanukah?” To which, he replied “Ani lo chogeig” – I don’t celebrate Chanuka. “Lomoh atah lo chogaig,” they asked. “Mipnai sheanachnu hifsadnu– because we lost!” he said. At least he didn’t fool himself into thinking he had commonality with Yehuda Hamaccabi, like the Israeli army does. The I.D.F.’s culture lost back then to those who invoked – “Mi Komocha Baeilim Hashem”. With Hashem’s help, the oskei torah will prevail in our times as well.

Zos Chanuka segulah for Parnassah

The last day of Chanukah known as Zos chanukah there are special tefillos to recite and segulos for parnasah on זאת חנוכה. The sefer נטעי גבריאל brings down a מנהג ספרדים to recite 308 times the פסוק of  "שובו שברו לנו מעט אוכל" as a Segulah for Parnasah on Zos Chanukah the word שוב is Begematria 308.

A old minhag in Yerushalayim to daven for rain-

Any Frum city has an infrastructure of essential needs that are here for the tzibbur and belong to the shtut. Many frum communities have services and organizations such as  Mikvaos, Chevra kadisha, Kashrus, Mosdos haTorah,Mosdos hachesed such as hatzolah, bikur cholim, and many chesed organizations. In a perfect world, they are under a elected vaad haair which are appointed by the tzibbur and there is accountability and transparency in those who are appointed to run these services.
Services which are communal in nature that are controlled by yechidim serving the needs of a few at the expense and quality of life of the klal. Unfortunately, when yechidim control the services of the tzibbur their personal interests come first. Self appointed community liaisons with government officials is no help when the focus is only on furthering ones personal interest and advancement.

Self appointed spokesmen and Vaads who claim to represent the majority are a perfect example. They issue statements to the media which only do harm. The
reaction and statements to the press following the public arrests in Lakewood is a prime example of the majority of the Tzibbur held hostage by a few individuals. The עוסקי תורתיך were thrown under the bus and publicly shamed. A city and town of טהורים is taken advantage of by a few who abuse the koach Hatzibbur for personal gain.

Lakewood community businessmen and members of the media came
together to discuss and launch the Lakewood Neighbors initiative to improve relations with neighboring communities and build coalitions to forge visions for the future it took place at the Pine Belt Chevrolet showroom last night.

on the Lakewoodneighbors website:

Over 50 leaders from Lakewood and across Ocean County gathered for a dinner on Wednesday night to form Lakewood Neighbors, a coalition to address the social and civic challenges facing the region and develop a shared vision for the future.

They will be reaching out to concerned citizens to join them in the coalition, and invite those with an interest in participating in their activities to contact them at info@lakewoodneighbors.org.

The coalition plans to meet regularly and to follow a collaborative “charrette” model to create an innovative atmosphere in which a diverse group of stakeholders can work to generate visions for the future. They will publish blog updates and features on this LakewoodNeighbors.org website and on social media.

Founding coalition members include Mr. Joseph Buckelew, Chairman of Conner Strong & Buckelew; Mayor Ray Coles, mayor of Lakewood; Ralph Zucker, President of Somerset Development; Dr. Dovid Friedman, CEO of the Lakewood Resource and Referral Center and Chemed Health Center; Mrs. Ada Gonzalez, Vice President of the Lakewood Board of Education; Rabbi Aaron Kotler, President of Beth Medrash Govoha; and Mr. Michael McNeil, Director of N.J.’s Solutions to End Poverty Soon (STEPS) and Housing Chair of New Jersey’s N.A.A.C.P.

“This is a broad coalition of caring stakeholders wanting to realize and share the real story of our region,” said Rabbi Aaron Kotler. “As in any successful, diverse and growing region, we face social and civic challenges, along with misunderstanding, and misrepresentation. Concerned citizens are called to understand and face these challenges while fostering a shared vision of a promising future.”

“We’re going to tackle the challenges facing Lakewood,” said Joseph Buckelew. “And we’ll ensure that Lakewood’s story and beauty are properly told and appreciated.”

“Lakewood and our neighboring towns are diverse, generous, compassionate, growing, safe and welcoming places, built on the values of faith, family and community,” said Lakewood’s Mayor Ray Coles. “We have a thriving entrepreneurial spirit with unmatched generosity, and we want to work with our neighbors to build a brighter and inclusive future for all.”

Who Is to Blame For Lakewood Driving

Audio yesterday of a Radio show discussing Lakewood Driving blaming the community of course. (Audio From FAA blog.)

Yes its true there are over 100 accidents a week in Lakewood  most of them fender benders but there are injuries r'l. Many factors contribute to these accidents. The lack of a normal grid, over development, bad drivers, a infrastructure that was used for horse and buggies, roadways that compel drivers to make bad decisions among other reasons. The Prosecutor office carried out a ticket blitz highlighting 14 fatalities that took place in Lakewood this year. While they are unfortunate most of then had nothing to do with Lakewood driving. 4 fatalities were on the Garden State Parkway that runs through Lakewood. Others were pedestrians crossing dangerous roadways late at night or on weekends. But that didn't stop the media to blame the Orthodox Jewish community for the so called  Lakewood driving. Did any one take a statistic of the minority make up of those involved in accidents?
Politicians recently made statements about the population growth which will naturally raise the stats of car accidents. They forgot to look in the mirror for the over development and dangerous roadways they created themselves.
Traffic enforcement is welcomed when it is meant to fix a problem not when it is done to ticket the way out of problems.  Local websites that continue to highlight Dash-cam videos only reinforce a bad stereotype about Lakewood. Instead of focusing on making Lakewood a safer driving experience it is used as another means to bash and portray the orthodox community in a bad light.
