Four family members are dead after a shooting with an assault rifle in Long Branch, New Jersey, law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation tell NBC 4 New York

The sources tell News 4 that a 16-year-old boy of one of the victims is in custody. The teenager is expected to be charged for killing four family members, including mother and grandmother, according to sources. scanner traffic said the incident happened at a Wall Street address that is within the boundaries of West Long Branch, in a residential area off Norwood Avenue.

The prosecutor's office said the shooting was believed to be "an isolated domestic incident" and there was no known threat to the public.

The identity of the other two people killed are a juvenile female and an adult male, but their relationship to the 16-year-old suspect was not clear.

It also wasn't clear what time the shots rang out, but the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office tweeted just after 2 Monday morning that there is no threat to the public as they believe it was a domestic incident.

Hamodia: A Discussion about Bitcoin "Short on substance and large on Flash and Glitz"

From the Hamodia Financial Event The New Tax Law and Bitcoin: What You Need To Know: Watch Video Below.
Why are Heimishe people more susceptible to these scams?

Rabbi Issamar Ginzberg,(see video below minute mark 1:14:00) renowned marketing strategist and Hamodia columnist, gave a characteristically lively and humorous 20-minute presentation, punctuated by some attention-grabbing visual gags, laying out in brief how bitcoin works. He also gave some insight into psychological factors that, in his view, are contributing to the popularity of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. In sum, his experience and understanding led him to the conclusion that bitcoin is short on substance and large on flash and glitz that are enticing many to jump onto something they don’t quite understand.

Mr. Naftali (Mark) Horowitz, (Video 1:33:45) managing director and financial advisor at J.P. Morgan, followed, and spoke in even starker terms about what he deemed a scam in the tradition of many schemes and cons that have befallen the world at large and the frum community in particular. He cautioned against the human tendency of confirmation bias, seeking information that only confirms a rosy view of reality without taking opposing views into account. And he insisted that to purchase bitcoin, with no product or revenue stream behind it, cannot be deemed an investment but is mere speculation, akin to seeking profits through gambling. He called for potential investors to follow the example of Warren Buffett or JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who have both said purchasing bitcoin is a bad idea, and advised, instead, to pursue sound, long-term investments. Potential storm This Weekend

A serious storm is lurking along the East coast  and forecasters are being very cautious about it. Lakewood may get up to 6 inches.
What do you do if you loose power on shabbos and its near or below zero?

There is the potential for not only a foot or more of snow to fall but also the risk of hurricane-force winds and frigid air at the same time. Tremendous blowing and drifting snow is likely and some communities could be isolated for several days in the wake of the storm, should this worst-case scenario unfold, according to the release by the NWS.

A significant snowstorm that could produce "near-whiteout" conditions could impact New Jersey this week Some predictions of snow in the double digits. Also high winds may cause power outages  In addition behind the storm will be icy cold. With high temps 10-15 with lows near or below 0.  any little shift west means more snow (could be much more) and any shift east means less snow

The National Weather Service, saying the potential for a plowable snowfall has increased, has issued a hazardous weather outlook since the storm could produce "very gusty northwest winds.

Lakewood Township Reorganization Meeting Scheduled Later Than Usual

Speculation why Lakewood Township delayed the annual reorganization meeting. According to township code The Township Committee shall meet annually within the first week in January. In previous years the committee held its reorganization meetings right as the new year began either on January 1 or 2nd and always in the morning. This year the meeting is unusualy scheduled for Sunday the 7th and will take place in the evening at 7:30 pm.

First Amendment Activist speculates that Mayor Coles will be reappointed to serve as mayor for 2018 even though hes in the Democrat minority. The Mayor is reportedly out of town and will return on the 7th. In his last meeting the mayor made it sound that he's not expecting to be mayor in the coming year, yet he recently laid out his vision for 2018. The powers in town would love to see him back at the helm as he brought home the goods this past year when he pushed  and voted for the master plan.

The township posted this notice:
Township Committee will hold their Annual Reorganization Meeting On Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Lakewood Township Municipal Building, Auditorium, 231 Third Street, Lakewood, NJ. Formal Action will be taken.
A reception will be held after the Reorganization Meeting in the Lakewood Township Municipal Building.

Storm Update

The Jersey Shore is expected to see 4-7 inches of snow, while the rest of New Jersey could get 1 to 4 inches. A winter weather advisory is also in effect in South Jersey, while a hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the rest of New Jersey.

The snow should end by Thursday night, but it won't be melting anytime soon. The high temperature on Friday will be around 25 degrees. It will be even colder on Saturday with a high near 11. The predicted wind chill temperature at 8 a.m. Saturday: 8 degrees below zero.

The worst of the storm will hover 20 to 50 miles, or more, off the Jersey Shore But it could produce winds throughout New Jersey exceeding 45 mph.

Besides wind that could knock down trees, signs and poles, there could be incredibly poor visibility on the roadways. And after the snow exits, the temperatures will dip into the polar vortex range with some of the coldest air of what has, at just two days old, already been a bone-chilling year.

Some Purim Shtick now Legal in NJ

Walk into any store in NJ and they are now selling party snappers and other purim shtick.
New for 2018, Sparklers, party poppers and snappers are now legal in NJ. Christie signed legislation back in June, legalizing "non-explosive, non-aerial" fireworks in New Jersey. That means stores are allowed to sell sparklers, glow-worms, snakes and smoke devices in the state for the first time in decades. The law also legalized some small novelty fireworks that act as noisemakers, including party poppers and snappers that bang when they are thrown on the ground.

Kids still can't use any fireworks in New Jersey, even sparklers. The new rules apply only to people age 16 or older.
Most fireworks, including Roman candles, bottle rockets, torpedoes, bombs, skyrockets and other consumer fireworks designed to explode in the sky are still forbidden to sell. See more at NJ.com

It looks like Erev Yom Tov as shoppers are packing the grocery stores stocking up on food for Shabbos before the storm hits.

-Gourmet Glatt is no longer taking delivery orders for today.
-NWS upped snow estimate 6-8 inches for Ocean county.

-Lakewood weatherman predicts 8-14 inches in the town.

-LFD: keep Fire Hydrants clear of snow
Due to the impending snow storm, the Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners in
conjunction with Fire Chief Mike D’Elia Jr. and the members of the Lakewood
Fire Department, remind residents to refrain from shoveling or plowing snow on
top of or in close proximity to fire hydrants.
Residents are urged to keep the fire hydrants in their neighborhood clear of snow and debris. Winter storms can often hide fire hydrants under a mountain of snow making them impossible to find quickly.
