Mayor Coles and the Township committee took Mr. Louie Follman off the Planning board after he apparently did not give developers what they wanted. They did not reappoint him this year. Mr. Follman a long time Lakewood resident fought for the Lakewood community by implementing positive changes in the master plan against the wishes of developers and some committee men. He was replaced by a newcomer who is said to be developer friendly according to a report on the First Amendment Activist Website

Tonight: Public Hearing For Water Rate Increase

$

If you live a town where your water is supplied by New Jersey American Water company, the cost of your water service may be going up, possibly as much as 18 percent for residents in the Monmouth and Ocean County area, under a proposed rate increase.
For Lakewood residents the proposed increase is about $10 on the monthly bill for the water charge and an additional $5-8$ increase on the Sewer portion.
see breakdown HERE
From Patch.com/ Lakewood
A public hearing on the proposed increase is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Howell Township Municipal Building, 4567 Route 9 North, Howell. The hearing will be in the main meeting room on the second floor of the building.

New Jersey American filed the request for the rate increase in September, saying the increase is needed to offset upgrade its systems since 2015.

"The rate increase is needed primarily because New Jersey American Water invested more than $868 million in treatment and distribution facilities to continue to provide safe, reliable water and wastewater service," the company said.

The rate increases proposed vary from service area to service area, and some areas could see increases of more than 25 percent, according to a chart New Jersey American included in its letter notifying affected towns of the public hearings.

For most customers in the Monmouth County area, the basic quarterly bill would increase from $56.83 to $67.17, according to the chart.

The rate changes also affect sewer services in communities where New Jersey American provides that service. In Howell, the company is moving from a flat quarterly rate to a rate based on actual usage, according to a breakdown of the proposed new rates. That charge would increase 1.49 percent, according to the company.

TBL: Turmoil and Corruption at the Planning Board

$

Cross posted from TBL Take back Lakewood

Suddenly, out of left field, a proposal surfaced at the January 9th meeting from Ian Goldman. Ian is a criminal defense attorney whose only experience in land use was some time spent on a zoning board. No one knew about this proposal before the meeting on January 9th because it didn't exist yet!! With a deadline of Dec 15th long gone, Ian craftily drafted a proposal which he pre-dated to December 7th, and then the Township stamped it as received on January 9th 2018! 34 days after it was supposedly written and 25 days after the deadline!

The (Lakewood) Planning Board is currently enveloped in tremendous turmoil. This past Sunday was the Township's reorganization meeting. Earlier that day, 2 members who were prepared to be added to the Planning Board that evening - resigned before they were even appointed! 2 more members - Grunberger and Franklin - had resigned from the board but were dragged back into service due to the sudden lack of new people to fill the seats. They reluctantly attended the Planning Board meeting this week and are just waiting for new appointees so that their resignations can take effect.

Two new members were appointed to the Planning Board. Aaron Shain (who didn't attend his first meeting!!) and Chaim Sable (see here for more on him). On Tuesday night, January 9th, the Planning Board met for their first meeting. They voted to re-appoint Herzl as their Chairman. Then they needed to vote on what for the last 13 years was just a procedural matter - reappointing John Jackson as the Board's attorney.

The board went into the back room to discuss - and emerged a full 40 minutes later with a bombshell - they are considering appointing a new Planning Board attorney to replace John Jackson.
In the Fall, the Planning Board put out their usual RFP asking for bids for Planning Board Attorney. For years and years - only 1 bid was sent in, and every year John Jackson was re-appointed and served the board faithfully. The deadline to send in bids was 12/15/17.
