The (Anti) Vaccine Coalition

$

Dear Friends,
B’siyata D’shmaya we have formed The Vaccine Coalition, a Coalition of Non-Vaccinating Parents in Lakewood, New Jersey.

This coalition was founded by R’ Malkiel Kotler shlit”a, R’ Shmuel Meir Katz shlit”a and R’ Refael Szmerla shlit”a, and it aims to address the current pressing issue of schools rejecting or dismissing non-vaccinated children. It will also be available to help non-vaccinating parents in Lakewood in any area we feel we can, as well as to provide support of ‘strength in numbers’ to pro-vaccine choice Lakewood families.
This coalition depends on a collective voice and will not be launched until we reach a minimum of 250 families. If you live in Lakewood and have made a decision not to vaccinate your children, we encourage you to please take a few moments to sign up to join the coalition, for your benefit, and for the benefit of all other Lakewood families like yourselves.

By joining the coalition you agree to have your name and personal information added to our private database. Your information will never be released to a third party without your permission. If the coalition should find it absolutely necessary to release your name in the course of assisting it's members you may receive an email requesting your permission.  Any such instance will be authorized by the Rosh Hayeshiva R’ Malkiel Kotler shlit”a beforehand.
The success of this endeavor is contingent on enlisting as many non-vaccinating families as possible. Please take the time to reach out to your friends and family who don’t vaccinate and encourage them to join.

To join, please visit www.vaccinecoalition.org. Alternatively you can join by emailing vaccinecoalition@gmail.com or call/ text 732-806-7739

Lakewood Township Committee IGNORES Will of the people votes to Pass Fire Budget, Mocks official Elections

In a blatant act of Chutzpah the Lakewood Township committee voted to approve the Fire budget that was rejected by the Taxpayers of Lakewood in a official election. Too bad for all those who schlepped out to vote on Motzei shabbos February 17 in the snow, your vote does not count.
Mayor Ray Coles said he wont even make a reduction and leave the budget as is. The result is a tax increase of 1.3 Million dollars a 33% increase over last years budget. The Mayor said he discussed the budget with the fire commissioners and there was nothing for them to cut. They couldn't even cut $1!. Budgets should not be voted on said the mayor if you dont like it vote out the commissioners.

Sorry Mr. Coles but the Lakewood taxpayers are a bit smarter than you, they voted for the commissioners and still voted NO on the budget. They watched the fire budget increase year after year with out of control spending and no oversight. Lakeeood's fire tax increase is the highest in the Jersey Shore srea. Money did not go only for basic infrastructure fixes like adding fire hydrants. The increase went to add more paying fire fighters from the Volunteer pool and to create new paying job positions for cronies and other fringe benefits.

At the Township meeting a resident pointed out the lack of Fire Hydrants in a area that had a fire in Lakewood during the snow storm. The commissioner said that' s exactly why they have to increase the budget.
A look at the recent spending shows the money went to create paying jobs, high Legal fees and other spending on apparatus not more hydrants.

שלום אוחנונו ז"ל at Center of Brain Death Case in Toronto, Passed away Erev Shabbos

CTV News Canada TORONTO -- An Orthodox Jewish family that launched a legal battle to keep their son on life support after he was declared brain dead said the man's heart had stopped, rendering him dead in their view, but they continued to seek a judge's ruling in the case that pitted religious values against medical guidelines.
Shalom Ouanounou's family, who held a funeral for him Friday, hopes a decision in the case sets a precedent that could save other parents the pain they have experienced, their lawyer Hugh Scher said. "(Ouanounou's mother) does not want to see another mother experience what she has had to experience," he said. "She wants to see the courts recognize a form of religious accommodation ... in the determination of death in a way that is respectful of the family of the individual and the individual's beliefs."

Ouanounou was ruled neurologically dead by doctors at Humber River Hospital in September 2017, after the 25-year-old Toronto man suffered a severe asthma
attack. Doctors issued a death certificate and planned to take Ouanounou off life support, Scher said. But Ouanounou was not considered dead under the laws of Orthodox Judaism, which define death as the stopping of the heart and cessation of breathing, his family has said in court. To take him off life support would be an assault on his human dignity and religious liberty, they argued.

Ouanounou's father -- also his substitute decision-maker for health matters -- obtained an injunction in November 2017 that required doctors to leave Ouanounou connected to a ventilator and feeding tube while his family challenged Canadian medical guidelines surrounding death.

Legal arguments in the case wrapped last month, and the two sides were waiting for a judge's decision.

On Thursday, however, Ouanounou "suffered irreversible cardio-respiratory failure," Scher said. "That's certainly death under Jewish law," he said.

Scher said the judge who heard the family's case has told all parties he still intends to release a decision in the matter.

That decision will be important, despite Ouanounou's medical status no longer being at issue, Scher said.

The intention of the legal challenge was always to set a precedent for future cases, he added.

Humber River, which was named as a respondent in the Ouanounous' legal challenge, "sends sincere wishes of comfort to the family in this sad time," Daphne Jarvis, the hospital's lawyer, said.

"We expect that the court will likely proceed to render a decision on the application in due course, but we're not focused on that right now," she said.

There is still some uncertainty in the track of the storm system. If the storm tracks closer to the coast, the impacts would be greater. There is 10% chance we could see a total of 8" for the Jersey shore, but not likely.  Snow is expected late this afternoon into Tuesday morning. Highest amounts are expected across portions of northern, central, and eastern New Jersey, as well as portions of northeast Pennsylvania. Other parts of our area are expected to see some snow, but lesser amounts. Currently the Northern Ocean county can see 2- 3 inches.

Snow is expected to begin this afternoon Precipitation will begin as rain or rain/snow mix across southeast Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland this afternoon, before changing to snow this evening.
