Assuming all goes as planned there will be courtesy bussing for next year and perhaps thereafter.  The NJ Senate voted for a pilot program tailored for Lakewood that will give the private schools control over the funding for state mandated bussing of their students. The pilot plans on negotiating lower rates with bus companies that will leave extra money for courtesy busing. The township promised to fund the courtesy bussing for public school students not eligible for mandated bussing.

After serving the community for fifty years and performing thousands of Bris milah's Lakewoods veteran premier Mohel Rabbi Mordechai Mozes, while no longer a practicing mohel he will be undertaking a consultant and advisory role in in shaailos regarding Bris Milah. The "Mozes bris" will continue with his  sons who are all accomplished experienced mohalim in their own right and have trained with him at thousands of brissim. Below is a letter from Lakewoods pediatrician DR. Shanick and a letter from The Philadelphia Rosh hayeshiva Rav Shmuel Kamenetzky. Letters are printed in the current issue of The Voice Of Lakewood.

The vitriolic blame, hate and lies just keeps on popping up across social media as same old myths lies and fabrications are spread about the orthodox community of  Lakewood. Its embarrassing for the nonsense that people actually believe but that is how it has always been. Lakewood people dont pay taxes, Lakewood people dont have civil marriages,Lakewood people steal all the money from public school kids, Lakewood people, own the government, They build huge mansions all tax exempt, they are taking over buying up all the towns in a silent plot just like the Islamist's to control the world etc. When these comments and rumors are posted and not dispelled or fact checked it becomes the narrative. Lakewood drivers are the worst etc, no statistics or any facts to back up that claim but it has taken on a life of its own.  Stickers with slogans such as "Pray for me I drive in Lakewood" were distributed as a result. Perhaps the roads and infrastructure are the real culprit in these car accidents? has anyone noticed the many non Lakewood
residents driving in Lakewood who also get into accidents with other non Lakewood residents? How about neighboring townships or other cities across the US are they better drivers? no, but lets find another thing to blame Lakewood. Posting dash-cam videos for hits under the guise of "safety campaign" does no good either to dispel the myth.
Earlier this week state officials raided a institution in Lakewood. No one has any idea what it was about or what they are looking into, yest the speculations are flying. Media reports throwing out all sorts of garbage most of which is totally unrelated, comparing to raids in other areas trying to connect it. Everyone drumming up charges and accusations from their imaginations having a field day. Is this surprising at all? No its been that way but we cant let ignore it either. There are a few good Samaritans patrolling (or trolling) on social media calling out the bigots and and putting out the fires of hate.

Agudath Israel Hails New Jersey's 2017 Budget

Agudath Israel of America welcomed New Jersey's 2017 budget, signed into law yesterday by Governor Chris Christie.  The budget's highlights include increased state aid for private and parochial schools for which Agudath Israel has vigorously advocated. The new budget allocates $7.5 million for security funding for nonpublic schools. The allocation reflects a 200% increase from last year's budget and provides $50 per child which will allow schools to purchase and install sophisticated camera systems, sensors, lockdown equipment and security guards. The budget also maintains the current level of funding for technology and nursing services for nonpublic school students.

While the budget bill which passed the Legislature contained significantly higher amounts for nonpublic school security, technology and nursing, Governor Christie reduced those amounts using his veto powers.

The guiding force behind the new budget allocations was Assemblyman Gary Schaer (R-Passaic), Chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee, testified Rabbi Avi Schnall, director of Agudath Israel's New Jersey office.

"Assemblyman's Schaer's clear vision, leadership, and dedication to our children are unparalleled," he said.  "Assemblyman Schaer has worked tirelessly to secure more equitable funding for the safety needs of nonpublic school students. His efforts will have a major impact on tens of thousands of children."

Rabbi Schnall also thanked Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson) and Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D- Thorofare) for throwing their support behind the nonpublic school funding in the new budget.

In addition to meetings with legislators, Agudath Israel coordinated community events across New Jersey to raise awareness about the critical need for enhanced security in Jewish schools. In an age when terrorists seek out "soft targets," schools, especially Jewish ones, are seen as especially vulnerable and in need of upgraded security.

Rabbi Schnall cited the valuable contributions of the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center and the Catholic Conference in promoting the needs for these crucial funds, noting that their efforts played a significant role in solidifying these allocations.

Shiva for Mrs. Rose Goldberg a''h רחל בת אברהם לייב is at 950 Forest avenue in Lakewood between 9th and 10th street. Getting up from Shiva Friday July 8.
At the Levaya the Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva Harav Yerucham Olshin mentioned the granddaughter of Mrs. Goldberg who is still in a coma for 15 years. She was injured at the Sbarro bombing in yerushalayim in August of 2001. Chana Tova Chaya bat Pesha Nachemberg was a Bais kayla student in Lakewood. She is married and has a child who was an infant at the time now 15 years old. from a comment on Aish.comChana Nachenberg, Chana Tova Chaya bat Pesha, still remains in a vegetative state from that day. Her daughter, Sara, has grown into a teenager, without a mother.
And Chanas' husband, David struggles to raise his daughter, by himself, remains without his wife, and cannot move forward as long as Chana remains in a coma. Perhaps, for them, they are the most affected victims, living with daily palpable reminders of that horrific day."

Cory Booker no longer denying he's being vetted as Hillary Clinton's VP pick

CBS-New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker this weekend went from flatly denying he's under consideration to referring questions about vetting to the Clinton campaign. "I'm just referring questions about the vice presidency to the woman who is going to have to make this decision," he said on CNN Sunday. "You should talk to the Clinton campaign. What I do know is that on the Democratic side, there are many fabulous candidates--people that could be really strong vice presidential candidates." CNN's Brianna Keilar tried to get him to elaborate, saying: "That is not a no, sir. That is not a no." One potential downside of choosing Booker is that his replacement would be appointed by
New Jersey's Republican governor, Chris Christie. Asked about the possibility that Christie could become Donald Trump's VP pick, Booker said no matter who Trump picks there's no "good partnership" to help him effectively lead.
