Rosh yeshiva caught using chatGPT to prepare shiur

A  R"Y delivered a shiur that didn't have his typical brisker mehalach but it was more of a pilpul style shiur the talmidim were surprised by this major change and inquired about it, It turns out that due to a busy schedule and limited time to prepare  shiur the rosh was advised about using AI for Torah purposes. Word got out and the shiur was coined the  instant soup 8 minute shiur nevertheless he was unapologetic and said that he explained that GPT stands for גפ"ת

New fleishig restaurant opening in Lakewood "Noisar"

This restaurant promises to offer something unique to the sophisticated  Lakewood/Toms River palette that is tired of high end steaks. The Noissar menu will feature the favorite Sunday night leftovers that bubbly and mom would serve back in the day, bringing a nostalgic feel to today's fast food era. The Thursday night leftovers will also be from the previous shabbos. The freshest leftovers will be available on Sunday.

Large Balloon seen Flying over Lakewood

A gigantic balloon was seen flying over Lakewood hovering over neighborhoods and developments, there's been some rumors it is from RAG (Ruchniyus against Gashmiyus) with sophisticated software spying on residents to see if they have unfiltered internet. The Lakewood govt was hesitant about  taking action since they were remotely and could not get their act together. As the balloon crossed over the border to Toms River it was immediately shot down.

New vaad formed to tackle Lakewood high school and mesivta acceptance crisis

After the debacle and fiasco that took place the old vaad was forced out and an outside independent vaad was appointed. One idea was to just keep all the 8th graders back for another year which gives a full year to fix the problem if at that point there's still no breakthrough schools will hold them back for a 2nd year. Another proposal was to have mechitzos in the classrooms and have the girls go to the new mesivtos that have a hard time filling up. Surprisingly the feminists did ot like it; they wanted an all girls classroom.

Parents  flip inquiry on school faculty

Fed up with constant tuition hikes and a lack of transparency a group of parents have banded together to audit the school faculty and tuition committee. It should go both ways: tuition committees have to answer to us too after all we are partners in the children's education. A questionnaire was sent asking if they have a smartphone to itemize their family vacation spending if they purchased real estate or apts in Florida or yerushalayim. and how much they made off covid. one school owner got out of it claiming that he is also a parent.

Rav finds genius way to stop talking by leining

At a shul were talking was too much the rav ordered the baal korei to lein  the parsha on double speed. "If you do so for daf yomi this should be done at leining too" he said, it cut the timing down by half and the talking stopped. The mispalelim suggested that the rav also give  his drasha at double speed.

Mesivta Rebbe goes overboard

A local mesivta rebbe just lost it during his musser seder when the talmidim placed a meat board on his desk. Do You know why we have this churban he pounded with his hands because the olam is bored and you have balei batim in board meetings who think up these things out of boredom. Let them jump off a diving board instead he fumed. Now they have all these boards from pickle board to fish board to pastrama and popcorn boards. With boards you build a mishkan and instead they are destroying klal yisrael with these boardzz. it's not a meat board its a beheime board banging his desk the board flew off the table and landed all over the floor. Its not baal tashchis said the rebbe  just call it a floor board.

- R' Aaron Lang comments on local media not reporting about court case. "TLS would take my press release. Maybe there simply was not enough room for the story on the TLS website given all the important local matters. The Lakewood court case story is not just local but national news. It will significantly affect other districts and its outcome might become a model for all districts with large numbers of nonpublic students. As it turned out, lack of newsworthiness was not the reason. TLS replied to my email, "We generally don’t post things sent out all over." I guess they wanted an exclusive. You can't own news. TLS does not have a monopoly over the news. The First Amendment is the property of all Americans, not that of one organization.

As its name suggests, the bank portrayed itself as focused on the leading edge of technology. And it served thousands of tech firms. Yet SVB invested their money in something much less exciting, as Paul Krugman wrote: U.S. bonds, effectively I.O.U.s from the federal government.

Because the federal government has always paid its bills, U.S. bonds are widely considered the safest investment. SVB’s experience shows there are moments when even these safe investments may not pay off. The details get technical, but they’re worth unpacking to understand what went wrong.

Bonds are effectively money that the government borrows from buyers — the public — before paying them back later, with interest. Market conditions and the Federal Reserve, America’s central bank, help determine that interest rate.

When SVB bought bonds, interest rates were very low. Since then, the Federal Reserve, which sets certain influential rates, increased those to combat rising prices. Now, new bonds can carry interest multiple times higher than those SVB bought.

Imagine, then, that you want to buy bonds today. You would want the newer bonds because they have a higher payout. So when SVB needed to sell bonds, to raise cash that it could use for its customers’ withdrawals, it could do so only for a discount, taking a loss.

The bank failed to follow basic financial advice: Diversify your portfolio. “It’s not fraud,” said Joseph Gagnon, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. “But it’s an extremely risky, and obviously risky, strategy.”

In the past few weeks, venture capitalists and other wealthy customers on social media and in private chats started discussing concerns that SVB could no longer pay its depositors. Some began to move their money out of the bank, and the situation spiraled quickly. “Once you start asking, ‘Are we having a bank run?,’ it’s too late,” my colleague David Enrich, a business editor, said.

A regulatory failure
Financial regulations are supposed to stop these kinds of crises. But Silicon Valley Bank’s problems were not caught until it was too late — which many experts say was a result of insufficient oversight. (Here’s what to know about how your own money is covered.)

Under pressure from banks in 2018, Congress passed bipartisan legislation that Donald Trump signed into law shielding smaller banks, like SVB, from more stringent rules. The banks argued that they were so small that they posed little risk to the broader financial system.

SVB’s collapse and the aftermath suggest the banks’ claims were wrong: Even smaller bank failures can threaten the financial system as a whole, prompting some experts — but not all — to call for the federal government to get more involved.

FAA reports The traffic study also asserts that peak hours for retail shopping traffic are different than the peak hours for school bus traffic, and that much of the retail shopping center traffic will be "passers-by" who are anyways on the road for other reasons and they happen to stop in to the shopping center, as well "internal traffic" from residents who are already shopping or working in the Cedarbridge Corporate Campus. Unlike when Beth Medrash Govoha proposed  this mall, no members of the public commented on this application. - Couples returning from EY to the USA for Pesach are having trouble getting passports for newborns born since February after the US embassy changed the rule effective Monday, March 13, emergency appointments will be limited to those who are already documented as U.S. citizens and need to apply for a passport  No passport applications for undocumented applicants will be accepted, including children. The Embassy does not view ‘bringing a new baby to meet US relatives as an emergency’ parents need to  schedule for a appointment  to document their children as U.S. citizens and to receive a first-time passport. Th embassy blamed the changes after the emergency appointment system was abused as brokers bought up slots for appointments. "Unfortunately, even this system is being abused as we continue to see far too many applicants who do not actually have urgent, emergency U.S. travel. In particular, it is often used for first-time passports for infants who apply for an emergency passport and then return to us soon after for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA), without ever using the emergency passport for travel. This steals available appointments from people who truly need them".

A Belated Thank You to The Lang Court Victory for Lakewood

Reb Aaron Lang fought a 8 year  battle single handedly on behalf of Lakewood children to get state funding and fix the formula. Erev Purim he got a victory as the court acknowledged his argument and agreed to his points. Throughout the court proceedings he received no support from anyone in positions of leadership or from the Lakewood Vaad Igud, Agudah, BOE, Township l etc nor was it covered in some media outlets. He was even fought against and demoted in his job at the public school and no one stepped up to help him.

In a surprising statement the Lakewood Vaad has for the first time publicly thanked him for his efforts. See statement below posted on LNN

“The Lakewood Vaad is pleased to offer a huge Yosher Koach to our dear Chaver Aaron Lang for his recent resounding win in his long-standing lawsuit against the New Jersey State Education Department in the NJ Appeals Court,” The letter reads. “By winning this case, he has finally established - by law - that Lakewood has been cheated by the state funding formula for years in the amounts of state aid they allocated to the Lakewood Board of Education.

“In brief, Aaron, in collaboration with a distinguished Rutgers law professor, succeeded in establishing that the State drastically underfunded Lakewood by tens of millions of dollars in the funding formula by refusing to count the 50,000 Talmidim/os in our hundreds of Mosdos. It was clearly proven that while the State and district have the legal responsibility for transportation and special education services for the entire Lakewood community, they refused to count our students in their calculations for State aid. Hopefully we expect that this huge win will fund the Lakewood School District properly and permanently, so that they can provide full and robust services to all of Lakewood’s children as required by law.

“On behalf of the entire Kehilla, we offer our deep Hakoras Hatov and Bracha that Aaron and his mishpacha should be gebenched with bracha and hatzlacha.”
