In a rare interview, Lakewood Mayor Menashe Miller tells the Lakewood scoop website, ahead of time, that the township will vote down an Ordinance that just last week they voted to pass. He said the reason to abolish the rent control board was since the voluntary board did not meet on a regular basis, they were going to replace it with a more efficient agency. Well, having an insider on the township as a one man show paid by the town does not frankly make it more efficient. The make up of the board according to township code is a system of fairness were both landlords and tenants are equally represented. A one man board would have never done that. Board members have now committed to serve said the mayor which is why they will now vote down the ordinance.
The Ordinance to abolish the rent control board was snuck into the township agenda with no prior public dialogue or correspondence with the Lakewood tenants. Suspicion quickly arose as to the true motives behind abolishing the rent control board. Some members of the rent control board were not aware or informed of the ordinance to abolish the board they serve on. Local Residents and blogs had suspicions about this Ordinance.
