The Lakewood Board of Education is excited to announce its “Unity in Lakewood” art contest, which is open to all students in grades 6 through 12.
The Art Contest is being sponsored by Michael I. Inzelbuch, Esquire and Scoop Outdoor.
Students will be tasked with drawing a LOGO representing how people of all cultures, races, and religions can live together in unity.
Students will be placed in one of two categories: Middle School (Grades 6 through 8) or High
School (Grades 9 through 12).
All artwork must be completed on standard 8.5 x 11 white paper, and must include the name of the student, grade level and school on the back. Art work is due to Mr. Kevin Walters,
Supervisor of Fine Arts by the end of the day November 30, 2017.
Prizes:
First Place in each category – Students will receive $100.00 and their LOGO will be displayed on the Scoop Outdoor’s digital billboard, which is located on Cedarbridge and Hurley Avenue.
Second Place in each category – Students will receive $50.00.
Students with the winning LOGOs will be honored at the December 12, 2017, Board of
Education meeting.

Honorable Senator Robert Singer
The Honorable Senator Robert Singer has served on the senate for 26 years, and has lived in Lakewood for 47 years. He served on the Lakewood Township Committee for thirty years, and is the Vice President of Business Development for Lakeland Bank.
Mayor Ray Coles
Mayor Ray Coles has lived in Lakewood since 1988 and has served on the Township Committee since 2002. He currently has his Technology business.
Board President Moshe Bender
Board President Bender joined the Board of Education on February 15, 2017, and was elected President in August. He has lived in Lakewood for the past 31 years, and is married with young children. Mr. Bender is involved in community activities; such as, Hatzolah (Emergency Medical Services), and Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society (Fundraising for cancer patients and care).
Superintendent Laura A. Winters
Laura A. Winters moved to Lakewood in 1977, and lived there for many years with her parents and six brothers and sisters. Mrs. Winters began teaching in the Lakewood School District in
2001, and has since held the position of Supervisor, Assistant Principal, Principal and Curriculum Assistant to the Superintendent. She is currently in her sixth year as Superintendent.
Supervisor of Fine Arts Kevin Walters
Kevin Walters was an English teacher at Lakewood High School prior to becoming the Supervisor of English Language Arts (Grades 3-12), Social Studies and Fine Arts two years ago.
Alejandra Morales, La Voz Latina
Alejandra Morales lives in Lakewood, and is the founder of La Voz Latina, a grassroots
organization. The goal of the organization is to improve the quality of life for Latinos, with the focus on justice and equality. Mrs. Morales is the owner of La Casa de la Tia, which is located on Main Street. Currently, she has a son that attends Lakewood High School, and another son who graduated last year.
NAACP President Fred Rush
Fred Rush has lived in Lakewood since 1981, and is currently the President of the NAACP. He has been a mentor for Omega 13 since 1981. Mr. Rush is Vice Chair of Ocean, Inc.
Rabbi Aaron Kotler, BMG
Rabbi Aaron Kotler is the President of BMG. His family has been a large part of the Lakewood landscape for the past 75 years, and has been active in local community matters. BMG is one of the largest schools of higher learning in America
