Five Years Later: What has Eretz Hakodesh Done?
Read this very detailed 2 part article from harehbetzba.com disecting all the promises that were made by Eretz Hakodesh how they would “protect the Kedusha of Eretz Yisroel.” from the threat of the Reform movement pertaining to the kosel, Geirus, Shmittah, The Draft and more. The articles include letters and references from gedolei yisroel.
Part 1 HERE
Part 2 HERE

The idea of a frum party entering the World Zionist Organization (WZO) was first floated in 2019. It was rejected by dozens of Roshei Yeshiva because “no matter the supposed financial gain, it is forbidden to support, join, and identify with an organization whose purpose is to remove Torah as the foundation of the Jewish people. Joining the WZO is an immense Chillul Hashem, and by doing so, Eretz Hakodesh rendered itself illegitimate from its inception” (Here, also see here from talmidim of R’ Aharon Kotler, and here for background on Eretz Hakodesh and statements from previous Gedolim).

But never-the-less they pushed forward with the promise that they would “protect the Kedusha of Eretz Yisroel.” Repeating again and again that this isn’t something they want to do, but something they have to do. In a powerful letter responding to claims that R’ Chaim Kanievsky had permitted voting in the WZO as a horoas shoh in order to “save Kedoshay Yisroel”, a claim that was obviously rejected by the above mentioned rabbonim and roshei yeshiva, R’ Aharon Feldman writes: “Protecting kodshey Yisroel means stopping the assaults on Chareidi Judaism by the Israeli government in matters of the Kosel, geyrus, marriage, recognition of Reform etc. But this is an incorrect presentation of the issue; they will not save kodshey yisroel. . . This is nothing less than a fantasy. . . The advocates of Eretz Hakodesh have misled the Chareidi public, including several prominent Rabbonim, with a campaign designed to convince them to follow their fantasy,” (see the full letter here). Now we can look back on the previous five years and see exactly what a fantasy it was..........

In Conclusion
The roshei yeshivos and rabbonim who opposed Eretz Hakodesh did so afilu im timtze lomer, even if everything they said was true. They said that we are forbidden to join an organization created specifically to redefine the Jews as a nationalist political group and not as the Am H-shem. We are forbidden from signing a declaration that the state of Israel is central to the existence of Klal Yisroel. And we are forbidden to join umbrella groups that include the Reform and Conservative. This is all even if Eretz Hakodesh would actually have been able to use the vast resources of the WZO to accomplish all of the things above. As R’ Elchonon said in the name of the Chofetz Chaim (1 & 2), ““Better for the majority of yeshivas to close ח”ו than to join [The Jewish Agency].”

But, with hindsight, it is clear that this is not a case of simple people making a seemingly reasonable decision to advance Torah values from within an otherwise unappealing organization and the rabbonim coming to remind them of the correct Torah hashkofah and historical precedent. This interpretation is, as R’ Aharon Feldman said, just a fantasy. They’re not stopping the Reform, they’re not saving the Kosel, they’re not making all the farmers in Eretz Yisroel keep shmittah, and they’re not doing anything to prevent actual dangers to frum Jews. Were they overly optimistic? Was it a lack of skillful askonus? No, to quote R’ Aharon Feldman again, “The advocates of Eretz Hakodesh have misled the Charedi public, including several prominent rabbonim.” And when we see their deception in one area, their dubious claims of rabbonim who supported them only to pull back their support shortly afterwards becomes all the more understandable.

So, what have they been doing for the last five years? Their successes might be more telling than their failures source

Trump says the United States will increase tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada to 50%.

Trump: Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on "Electricity" coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th. Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous. I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA! Also, Canada pays very little for National Security, relying on the United States for military protection. We are subsidizing Canada to the tune of more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. WHY??? This cannot continue. The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever — And Canada will be a big part of that. The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World — And your brilliant anthem, "O Canada," will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!

Purim on Friday When Do You Eat The Seuda

$

For informational purposes only for Halacha and Minhagim speak your LOR.

The next time Purim falls out on Friday is in 20 years.

Written by Rabbis Eli Gersten, Yaakov Luban, and Moshe Zywica of the Orthodox Union

The Rema (Shulchan Aruch OC 695:2) writes that when Purim is on erev Shabbos, it is preferable to begin the Purim seuda in the morning (before chatzos) so as not to detract from the honor of Shabbos.

The Mishnah Berurah (695:10) cites the Yad Efrayim who writes that if this will be difficult, one may l’chat’chila postpone the seuda up until three hours before Shabbos Bedieved (after the fact), if one is unable to begin the seuda until later, one must still eat the seuda up until Shabbos. If one is still in the middle of the Purim seuda at shkia (sunset), when shabbos begins, one can be  “Poress Mappa”, in which the Purim Seuda and Shabbos evening meal are essentially combined into one. According to this approach, the Purim Seuda begins late in the day on Friday. In the minutes leading up to sunset, one is to cover the challah/lechem mishna which is on the table and one then be mekabel shabbos with the recitation of Kiddush. (If one drank more than a Reviis wine ny the purim seuda he does not make a bracha of borei pri hagefen by kiddush only vayechulu and asher kideshanu) After Kiddush has been recited one simply eats a kzayis of bread and continues with one’s meal which has now been transformed into the Shabbos evening meal. Maariv is done after the meal. The Mishnah Berurah writes that if this were to happen, one would recite Retzei in bentching, but not al hanissim. One cannot recite both retzei and al hanissim, since this would be a contradiction. Since we are required to recite retzei, this indicates that it is Shabbat and Purim is over. Therefore, one can no longer recite al hanissim. (Kosher.com)

- Rav Uri Deutsch of Forest Park in Lakewood received a haskama from Rav Dov Landau regarding a kol korei to address the shidduch crisis. The proposal encourages boys to enter shidduchim earlier, while girls are advised to hold off for an additional year.

Assemblyman Avi Schnall’s Re-Election Campaign:
Assemblyman Avi Schnall kicks off his re-election campaign with an ad campaign in Lakewood media highlighting his legislative work.

Political Firestorm After Wedding Footage:
A political controversy erupted after footage from the wedding of Rav Shalom Ber Sorotzkin’s son surfaced. In the video, the attendees, including talmidim, sang a Niturei Karta song defying the IDF draft of yeshiva bochurim.
Israeli opposition leaders Yair Lapid and Avigdor Lieberman expressed outrage, calling for the stripping of voting rights from Charedim who don't serve. However, the Charedi leadership responded by supporting the young men at the wedding, stating that the persecution of Torah students by the Israeli left has already caused severe incitement.

- Rav Ben Tzion Kook, a renowned posek and student of Rav Elyashiv, addressed a query from Rav Simcha Bunim Londisky, a Lakewood Rav, regarding the issue of “פורס מפה ומקדש” this year on Purim, as it coincides with Shabbos. Rav Kook advised that lechatchila (ideally) it should not be done, as it leads to missing the recitation of "Al Hanissim" during bentching and shortens the Purim Seuda, as the main meal extends into Shabbos.

Taanis Esther Survival Guide for Lakewood Parents
A Note from a Social Worker: Staying Calm Amid the Chaos

As a social worker in the Lakewood community, I often hear from overwhelmed parents who feel like Taanis Esther is a perfect storm of pressure — traffic, tantrums, tight schedules, and the ever-growing lists of drop-offs and expectations.

Tomorrow, the scene will be familiar: cars inching along block by block, toddlers melting down in car seats, and a backseat filled with shalach manos bags teetering on the edge of collapse. You're expected to be in 14 places at once — dropping off shalach manos early, visiting morahs and teachers, reminding your kids to smile and say thank you — all while fasting and juggling regular responsibilities.

It’s a lot.

So here are a few gentle tips to help you navigate the day with calm, presence, and even a little joy:

1. Set Realistic Expectations
You won’t get everything perfect — and that’s okay. You’re showing kavod to the teachers and morahs, not competing in a Pinterest Purim competition. Even if one bag gets crushed or a ribbon falls off, your appreciation still shines through.

2. Prep Your Mind in the Morning
Before the chaos starts, take 5 quiet minutes — yes, even if it’s in the laundry room — to breathe deeply and set your mindset. Say a short tefillah or affirmation: “Hashem, help me go through this day with calm and kindness.” You’ll be surprised what a few moments of grounding can do.

3. Create a Drop-Off Game Plan
Map out your route the night before, and prioritize your most important stops first. Keep a printed list so you’re not scrambling. Build in buffer time — because yes, someone will forget their shoe or spill juice on a rebbi card.

4. Car Time Can Be Quality Time
You're going to be in the car for a while — turn it into bonding. Play Purim songs, share funny memories,  count the traffic cones on Central Ave, count how many new Eqonox cars are on the rd or talk about what each teacher means to your child. These conversations can transform the “wasted” hours into precious connection.

5. Remember: The Teachers and Rebbeim Appreciate YOU
A kind note and a warm smile mean more than the packaging. But yes — tips matter too. It's a gesture of gratitude for a year of hard work, care, and chinuch. Don’t stress about the amount — give from your heart, according to your ability. Even a modest envelope, given with warmth and a thank-you, carries value.

6. Expect Gridlock… and Choose Calm Anyway
Lakewood traffic on Taanis Esther is almost a minhag at this point. Getting frustrated won’t make it move faster — but turning on calming music, keeping snacks in the car for the kids, and choosing patience can change everything. Your kids will mirror your energy — if you’re calm, they will be too (eventually!).

7. Hydrate Wisely Before the Fast
Don’t forget, you’re fasting — and dehydration is a shortcut to stress, irritability, and fatigue. Prep the night before: drink water, rest, and plan light tasks for yourself post-drop-offs.

8. At the End of the Day… Pause and Reflect
You did it. You showed your children how to express gratitude, how to manage chaos with dignity, and how to prioritize kavod hachinuch. That’s no small feat. Be proud of yourself, even if you forgot a label or ran 20 minutes late.

Final Thought:
It’s easy to get caught up in the packaging, but the real shalach manos is the smile you give the morah, the gratitude you show the rebbi, and the emotional calm you offer your children. That’s the kind of chinuch that lasts longer than any candy bag ever will.

Wishing you a meaningful fast, a joyful Purim, and a car that miraculously stays clean for more than 15 minutes.

With warmth,
A Lakewood Social Worker Who Gets It
