Rebuttal to the Cedarbridge Spin Article

See the Lakewood Scoop spin article on Cedarbridge
This was also posted on Matzav but then they pulled the article (perhaps realizing the factual errors).
TBL - When seeing this article with much misinformation, I am compelled to respond to correct the record with some facts. I have nothing against the yeshiva and I hope they are matzliach in ruchniyos and gashmiyus but they need to finally begin to take into account the needs of the residents of Lakewood. Our intention in aiding the concerned residents opposed to the shopping Village was not to discuss the free gift of 240 acres, rather to oppose the building of retail shopping and insist that the original agreement of office buildings was kept to. With the release of this interview we are compelled to respond to the many misleading items in the interview.  See below for excerpts from the Lakewood Scoop article and our responses. 5. DISCUSSION: DESIGNATION OF AN AREA IN NEED OF
REHABILITATION – EAST COUNTY LINE ROAD HERE

TBL meeting overview- Tues. Feb. 7th Planning Board 6:00
The Planning board will adopt new rules and procedures governing their proceedings with some similarity to rules recently adopted by the zoning board.

There is a request to designate E. County Line Road as an area in need of redevelopment.  On 12/22/16 the Township Committee passed a resolution requesting the Planning Board to review the County Line area and designate it an area in need of redevelopment. The purported purpose is to approve 13 new office buildings and give them tax abatement's

for a few years before they will eventually begin paying taxes. The planning board would likely approve this and then the Township Committee would be allowed to pass various ordinances affecting the area since it was determined to be ‘in need of redevelopment’. Those words are very broad and lack specificity. Cedarbridge also started off being ‘in need of redevelopment’ and look where that got us. We think the Planning board should vote no until there is more clarity as to what this proposed redevelopment will mean for the residents of E. County Line. If you live on E. County line anywhere East of Route 9 and are concerned about this, come to the meeting where this will be discussed right at the beginning of the meeting at 6:00.
Oak street subdivisions will be heard with 9+ applications as part of the Oak Street Core ordinance. Some of these applications are attempting to get approved without sidewalks and work is being done to ensure that ordinances are kept to and sidewalks are built.
SD 2173—493 Joe Parker—Continuation from last meeting— attempting to turn two lots into 4.

Petition or deflection

And once again we hear the widen route 9 talk  this time another petition goes up to widen the nine. Now we are told its closer to happening than ever. The following comment by Take back Lakewood was deleted from the comment section of the Petition page.
"While I'm not opposed to Route 9 being widened, keep in mind that:
1) It will not solve all of our problems. Drive along the many other congested roads in town and you'll see that while this is a big problem, it won't solve everything.

2) The 'askanim' love to use this an an excuse for all of our problems and they want it widened so that they can continue to build high density.... Now that they are taking heat for the trouble they got us all into, they are trying to deflect blame to the state. They want everyone to focus on this and forget about the problems that we're bringing on ourselves by spot-zoning and approving dense housing. Then they want to come out looking like heroes for 'fixing' the problem that they caused.

3) The HD-7 zone is a horrible zone which had led to much high density housing all along Route 9 by allowing duplexes and townhouses. There is currently a pending application to build many houses in the parking lot of Cross Mill Mall at Cross/River due to the lenient HD-7 zone.

4) Widening River ave will also cause problems. Imagine trying to turn left out of the many developments dealing with 4 lanes of traffic!!"

Thurs. Feb. 9th Township Committee meeting  7:30
Pursuant to our request, the Township Committee will be voting on an ordinance to require parking for buildings larger than 2 stories in the downtown. In response to 2 more of our requests, Mayor Coles has announced that he will begin requiring the Township to advertise the upcoming meetings and agendas in the Jewish weekly publications in addition to the current APP. The township will also begin requiring that an address be put on the agenda instead of just block and lot numbers.  We are continuing to work to ensure that new procedures and ordinances are enacted to ensure a fair process that protects the residents and not just developers.

At the last committee meeting Mayor Coles said he welcomes public input. The committee heard a lot of public input on the Lakewood Shopping Village and the overwhelming consensus is that the residents of Lakewood do not want it. We have yet to see an adequate response and intervention from the committee members. We question why the committee has not yet stepped in to ensure that the will of the people is not ignored.

A resolution for tomorrows Lakewood township committee meeting appoints  a new lawyer for the opening of Vine street and rescinds a previous contract HERE to appoint Mr. Michael Groos. who happened to be the lawyer representing Cedarbridge LLC on behalf of the applicant for the Lakewood shopping village. According to a report in the Lakewood shopper Mayor Coles was asked about the obvious conflict of interest for the township to hire a lawyer that would benefit the cedarbridge project. His response i see no problem here  "its not a conflict of interest this is a completely separate issue". Well obviously it appears to have been a problem.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Tzvi (Hersh) Levenberg zt”l. He was 95 years old. Rav Hersh’s levayah will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the chapel on 7th street Lakewood, NJ, followed by kevurah at the East 7th Street Bais Hachaim in Lakewood.

The family will be sitting shivah at the home of Rav Yehuda and Esther Levenberg, located at 425 8th Street, between Forest and Madison Avenues, in Lakewood.

Rav Levenberg was a son of Rav Yehuda Heschel Levenberg, a well-known pioneer in the implanting of the European Jewish community on the shores of America.

Rav Hersh’s father immigrated to the United States in the summer of 1910 and soon afterwards was appointed as chief rabbi of Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1917, he accepted a rabbinical position in New Haven, Connecticut, and was appointed as chief rabbi there in 1920. He established a yeshiva there in 1923. In 1930, after accepting a position as rov in Cleveland, Ohio, Rav Yehuda Heschel moved his yeshiva there.

In his youth, Rav Hersh studied at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn, where he drew especially close to the rosh yeshiva, Rav Yitzchok Hutner zt”l.

Rav Hersh, upon reaching the age of marriage, wedded his wife Chana, a daughter of Rav Moshe Shatzkes, the Lomza Rov.

Rav Hersh was known as a young budding talmid chochom and became a maggid shiur at Yeshiva of Eastern Parkways and at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn, where he was marbitz Torah for decades.

Rav Hersh also served as the menahel ruchni of Camp Morris in Woodridge, NY, during the 1950s and 1960s.

His wife, Rebbetzin Chana, passed away in March 2013.

Rav Hersh’s son, Rav Yehuda Levenberg, is one of the noted talmidei chachomim of Lakewood, NJ. He is the author of the multi-volume Imrei Chein and a son-in-law of Rav Mordechai Menachem Schwab zt”l.

Rav Hersh’s other son, Rav Shmuel Levenberg, was a rov in New Haven, CT, for many years and subsequently in Wheeling, WV, and Kalamazoo, MI. He retired from the pulpit outside Buffalo, NY.

The family will be sitting shivah at the home of Rav Yehuda and Esther Levenberg, located at 425 8th Street, between Forest and Madison Avenues, in Lakewood.
