Farm Fresh supermarket on Squankum Road is temporarily closed. NJ State officials of the Division of Taxation took seizure of the property this afternoon. No word if and when they will reopen. 
May they only have Hatzlacha.

Sneaky: Lakewood Fire Elections next week, Asking To Spend another $1.4 Million

The Lakewood Fire District is once again having a special elections this coming Tuesday December 5th, 2017 asking the public to raise an additional 1.4 million dollars in the budget for 2018. They will adopt the budget at a meeting on December 7th. Again they expect Taxpayers to go and vote after raising the fire tax rate last year. This will be the 3rd time this year that there is an election relating to the LFD.

This comes a few weeks after the general elections when they could have put these expenses on the ballot just as they voted on a fire commissioner. On the notice its officially called a "special meeting" but they can only approve these expenses through a ballot election by the public. "The legal voters shall determine, by election ballot, the amounts to be raised for the above projects" according to the notice by LFD.
The Lakewood Vaad has so far not issued any statements about the proposed tax hike and how the public should vote, yet they did make an endorsement for the fire commissioner in the general elections.

This money will be raised as capital appropriations and will than be included in the budget. Items on the spending list include:

Funds for apparatus (($975,000.00)
A chief’s vehicle  ($65,000.00)
A brush truck  ($225,000.00)
Lighting upgrades ($36,000.00)

TOWNSHIP OF LAKEWOOD NOTICE:


PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Board of Fire Commissioners of Fire District No. 1, Township of Lakewood, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, at a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, 2017, to be held between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., or longer if necessary, at the Office of the Board of Fire Commissioners, 316 River Avenue, Lakewood, New Jersey, shall determine whether it shall raise funds for apparatus (Quint) in an amount not to exceed nine hundred seventy-five thousand dollars ($975,000.00), a brush truck in an amount not to exceed two hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($225,000.00), a chief’s vehicle in an amount not to exceed sixty-five thousand dollars ($65,000.00) and lighting upgrades in an amount not to exceed thirty-six thousand dollars ($36,000.00) and, at said meeting, the legal voters shall determine, by election ballot, the amounts to be raised for the above projects pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-84.  The amounts determined to be raised at said time and place shall be included in the next annual budget of the Fire District under the section for capital appropriations.
Formal action may be taken.

A Tomech Torah of Yeshivos and Mosdos Married off his son yesterday.  In honor of the simcha he distributed bonuses to youngeleit learning in yeshiva. The amount received was based on the number of years learning. Funds were distributed while the wedding took place.

Betrayed! Planning Board Members telll TVOL: Lakewood Township committee Disregards two years of Hard work and public opinion of the Masterplan

4 influential members of the Lakewood planning board reached out to The Voice Of Lakewood weekly. The masterplan which they passed was almost completely disregarded by the township committee in the ordinances voted on November 8th. The only thing they passed was the increased density and NOT most of the infrastructure improvements that the board made the density contingent upon. They noted as a whole: 
"we would have never increased density if the streets weren't working. We would have never voted for the masterplan without all the changes in place as members of a board which spent two years listening to its citizens we tried to implement public opinion into the plan and that's not reflected in the drafted township ordnance."

The Veretzky Rebbe shlita from Eretz Yisrael will be in Lakewood where he will host a special seudas melava malka to be mechazek the סעודת דוד מלכה משיחא in a public venue. There will be סיפורי צדיקים by the Rebbe, a Drasha By Rav Shauul Friedman of Shemen L'Mincha and Niggunm led by R' Issac Honig and the shira Choir. The event will conclude with the Rebbes signature חלוקת הקנאבל and Kos
shel Bracha where the Rebbe gives out garlic which helps for Refuos and Yeshuos.  The olam is requested to refrain from talking during the event.  

-Chabad will host a Melava Malka ahead of יט כסלו with Drashos, hisoirerus nigunei hisvaadus accompanied by a live orchestra

-Modzitz will have a seudas yartzheit and will sing the famous nigun ezkara

Lakewood Rabbonim address Eruv issue

Lakewood Rabbonim from the Yeshiva and chasidish circles signed a letter about the recent attempt to make a city wide Eruv. In the letter they write about the merging of a few eruvin together with the plan to ultimately have a expanded eruv for the entire Lakewood.  "This matter was brought up 20 years ago and at the time it was ruled that there would not be a city wide eruv " ,they claim.. In addition the letter also says that no current Rabbonim were consulted about the new eruv.

Mayor Coles before the election "we will honor the master plan and not change anything"

November 3, 2017: 
In an interview with the Lakewood shopper a few days prior to the elections the Mayor stated he will honor the ordinances as approved by the planning board and master plan committee. The very next day after the election on November 8th the Township committee voted on a changed ordnance that stripped out the points that put in by place by the planning board to soften the blow.

Lakewood Mayor:
"I can say that once the ordinances from the Master Plan come to the township committee we are going to honor that and not change anything that will disappoint people.

"The Planning board heard over 30 hours of testimony from people basically saying the same thing we know there's a need for growth we know we have to provide housing stock for people expanding their families in town or moving in, but we also have t take into account the quality of life of the people who are here and the integrity of the neighborhoods  that already exist in town
the Planning board drew a line in the sand and said enough is enough. there will be continued growth but that growth is going to be more of the single family detached houses".
