Traffic Safety Crackdown Set For Lakewood Roads starting Thursday

LAKEWOOD, NJ —(Patch) A spike in fatal accidents this year that .... led authorities to announce a traffic safety crackdown in the township.
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato announced the traffic safety detail, comprised of members of the prosecutor's office, Lakewood Township Police and New Jersey State Police, will begin Thursday, Dec. 7, and continue through Saturday, Dec. 16, targeting aggressive driving, driving under the influence and more.
There have been 13 fatal accidents in Lakewood in 2017, and numerous serious accidents as well, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office. That is what prompted the formation of the safety detail. The prosecutor's office has teamed up with other jurisdictions on traffic safety details in the past, most notably along Route 539, which traverses several towns from Little Egg Harbor to the border with Monmouth County.

The detail will target the following intersections and roads that have seen a high rate of fatal crashes in recent months, Della Fave said:

Cedar Bridge Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard
Route 9 and County Road 526 (County Line Road)
Route 70
Route 88.
While the accident that killed Hadassah Krohn, 3, occurred when she rode her bicycle into the path of the pickup truck, other crashes, including the one that killed German Alonso Velasquez Gonzalez of Toms River in late October, were blamed on aggressive driving.

Velasquez Gonzalez, 41, was killed in a head-on collision on Route 88 after he sped away from the scene of a crash where authorities said he rear-ended a car. Velasquez Gonzalez hit a total of three cars in the two accidents, and eight people were injured, authorities said.

"The Policing Partnership details have managed to raise significant awareness among the motoring public regarding roadway safety issues, but more important it has led to coordinated efforts by Ocean County law enforcement to take important steps toward making commuting Ocean County roadways safer," Coronato said.

In addition to the Route 539 detail, there have been enforcement details on Route 528, which runs from Jackson to Brick, and on Route 35, which runs from Point Pleasant Beach to Island Beach State Park.

"The partnership logistics and plans having been worked out for our prior CR539. CR528 and Route 35 details insures the coordinated enforcement element can be quickly reinstituted to address the above increased reports of accidents and dangerous driving behaviors," Coronato said.

This enforcement initiative will bring strict and aggressive traffic enforcement of the various moving and equipment violations that are contributory causes to crashes, Della Fave said. That includes driving under the influence, aggressive drivers, improper turning, failing to yield, failing to keep right, improper passing, inattentive driving, disregard of traffic signal, excessive speed, following too close, and pedestrian violations, he said. Commercial carrier violations such as overweight loads, equipment maintenance and brake pressure also will be targeted, he said.

Della Fave said the participating agencies will also utilize Automated License Plate Reader to identify those operating illegally.

Variable message signs were expected to be placed on Monday, carrying the words, "Traffic Enforcement Detail in Effect"— "Obey All Traffic Laws." Ocean County Prosecutor's Office personnel assigned to the detail will utilize unmarked police vehicles.

"We continue to ask the motoring public to police themselves by simply driving responsibly," the prosecutor's office said.

Lakewood Township is Ignoring The Changes in The MasterPlan

$

The Planning board approved the master plan contingent on specific changes
that will help the infrastructure deal with the density. Initially these changes were left out or changed after the first ordnance. When the Planning board came back to vote they made sure the original items were put back in hence the hand written notes. Now the township ordnance at first reading did not include the stipulations that were contingent on approving the master plan and plan to vote on  it again to finalize it.

Will Public be Shut out of Commenting prior to the Master Plan Vote?

Correction: The public can comment after each specific Ordnance but only relating to that topic. It is still interesting why they chose to have it before the general public comments.
The Township posted the Draft Agenda HERE for the meeting tomorrow evening. According to the list on the agenda the public comments will come only after they vote to approve the masterplan with a second reading of the ordinances. The implementation of the master plan is letter (J) and the public comment section follows with letter (K).
So if they stick to the agenda the public will only be able to comment once the master plan would have been voted on and presumably passed.

Lakewood Residents are wondering what changed before and after the elections.
why is the township committee ignoring the will of the majority of Lakewood and what the Planning board recommended.
Ray Coles says before the elections: "I would vote for ordinances in line with what the planning board sends us in the master plan"
Mike Delia says he agrees with the mayor 100%. Now the Master plan vote is up and is NOT in line with the Planning board.

Aguda Statement on Trump Jerusalem Acknowledgement

Will The Vaad  also issue a statement?

Statement of Agudath Israel of America Regarding President Trump's Acknowledgement of Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel

Israel is a sovereign state. Sovereign states have every right to determine where their capitals are. Israel has designated Jerusalem as its capital. Jerusalem is the seat of Israel's national government. Yet nations of the world refuse to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This is nothing less than a travesty.

The United States of America is Israel's closest ally. For years its political leaders have acknowledged Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Indeed, in 1995 Congress passed "The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995," which explicitly establishes the position of the United States that "Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel," and requires that the American Embassy in Israel be moved to Jerusalem. President Trump's welcome announcement today reaffirms that longstanding commitment, and deserves to be warmly commended.

To us, as believing Jews, the special status of Jerusalem is not dependent upon the formal recognition of governments or the nations of the world. To us, Yerushalayim is the Ir Hakodesh, the holy city, the place where the Holy Temples stood thousands of years ago, the place that has been in the prayers and hearts of the Jewish people wherever they may have been through their long years of exile, the place that has been our glorious history and will forever remain our ultimate destiny

APP: Township to add Road Conditions into the master plan Draft Ordnance

$

The Township may put some provisions in set by the Planning Board after all.
APP reports - The Lakewood Mayor is working  with the planners to add road conditions in the draft ordnance.
The planning board debated the more than 300-page plan for months, making many tweaks, before forwarding the plan to the township committee.

But the ordinances approved then don't mention impact fees and include vague language about road improvements instead of specifics as dictated by the planning board.

Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles said Wednesday he had worked with planners to ensure the road conditions were added to the draft ordinances, copies of which have not yet been publicly posted.
"I met with the planners and the manager yesterday and they assured me the language had been changed back to what the planning board wanted," he said.

As for impact fees, Coles said more work had to be done before putting those into place but that they had committee support. He said he expected that issue to be addressed by early next year.

A Slap in the Face to the Entire Lakewood

$

From TBL- It became abundantly clear that the Township Committee will be passing ordinances that are NOT in line with the Master Plan just days after the Master Plan is finalized!

This is an extreme slap in the face to the entire Lakewood! The residents of Lakewood and various committees and boards spent the last year investing time, effort and energy into the Master Plan. While we are not happy with the final product which does increase density in many areas (contrary to the township committee's commitment in 2016 here) , at least the Planning Board stuck in some key positive changes requiring numerous roads to be improved first, and creating impact fees in the entire Lakewood before the zoning changes take affect. However, the Township Committee in revealing their ordinances has explicitly gone against the critical recommendations of the Master Plan!

It is mind boggling that they think they will get away with voting on ordinances on December 7th that contradict the Master Plan - all aided and abetted by T&M!!

WHO IS T&M WORKING FOR?? Clearly not in the interests of the Planning Board. Clearly not in the interests of the residents of Lakewood!
1) T&M clearly ignored their explicit instructions when writing up the final wording in the Master Plan
2)While T&M was finalizing the Master Plan, they were simultaneously drafting conflicting ordinances for the Township Committee!!

There are 2 people on the Township Committee who are spearheading this all. Ray Coles and Meir Lichtenstein are strongly pushing to get the Master Plan rammed through and even then they will IGNORE the positive aspects of the Master Plan and just pass the density increases.....

.......... are being highly compensated with our tax dollars and yet they are throwing away all common sense and the instructions of the Planning Board all to satisfy the person that is really controlling them (Yes, he who must not be named is heavily involved here).

The Planning Board made a strong statement tonight to the Township Committee saying that they do NOT support the ordinances that the Committee will vote on December 7th since they do NOT conform with the Master Plan.

Now we turn the the Township Committee. Will they really sell us all out now by voting on the ordinances that contradict the Master Plan? Do they take us all for fools?

The OPRA's that we've seen w ere just the tip of the iceberg!

More to come as we untangle the web of lies and corruption that are seeking to wrest away any semblance of quality of life for Lakewood's residents.

Township Official To Yated: The Master Plan Should go Back to The Drawing Board

$
0
0
Yated Ne'eman Lakewood section reports on the Master- Plan vote quoting Planning board members and other Lakewood Township officials. They are disturbed about the missing contingencies that were  supposed to be included. "The public's opinion was unequivocally explicit that unbridled density should not be implemented we simply can not pass a plan that disregards this" a Planning board member tells the Yated. It is extremely frustrating to spend months working on solutions that would work for everyone, only to have it omitted from the plan another Planning board member told the Yated. "Additionally we would have never incorporated certain aspects of the plan had we known that the contingencies were going to be dropped "Density must be balanced" we looked into each meticulous detail of the areas where higher density was being proposed, and dealt with every road that has access to those areas. Removing restrictions or adding other areas of higher density effectively negates the whole purpose of the plan.

The Planning board members indicate to the Yated that this is overwhelmingly the opinion of the board as a whole.  The Planning board, asked for a clause to be inserted making the density hikes contingent on improvements to route 9, Cross street, Prospect street, James street, and Pine street It called for these streets to be brought up to a Level C which is the equivalent of constant traffic flow BEFORE the increased density takes effect. However the ordinances brought to the township committee omit any mention of James street, Prospect street, and Route 9. Even the streets mentioned Cross and Pine had the contingencies relegated to specific sections. Pine street from New Hampshire to approximately Vine street and Cross from Jackson only until Massachusetts completely disregarding the more heavily backed up segment that continues to route 9. There are other inconsistencies with the wording regarding the Eagle Ridge Golf club as well.

Pressure: Township Amends Ordnance to Reflect Planning Board

After strong push back from residents and planning board members the Lakewood committee is updating the ordnance and included the road improvement contingency. The impact fees though are not included now which will be a huge burden on tax payers. See final ordnance at FAA website here. The vote is expected to pass but Committee man Akerman said recently he's voting against it as that is the will of the majority of Lakewood residents.
