Jersey’s new gov charts familiar course to Disaster

NYP- New Jersey’s new Democratic governor, Phil Murphy, wants to move his state back to the future — or, more accurately, to the past. The dismal past, that is, of such predecessors as Jim Florio, Jim McGreevey and Jon Corzine — who unleashed the fiscal woes that have left the Garden State’s economy in tatters and its taxes sky-high.

That’s the takeaway from Murphy’s inaugural address last week, with his vow to produce “the state that leads the nation in progressive policies” and a laundry list of hard-left priorities that surely thrilled the hearts of every Democratic activist and public-union leader in the house.

He promised pot legalization, a $15 minimum wage, “equal pay for equal work” laws, automatic and same-day voter registration, a new state Office of Immigrant Defensive Protection, action to make the rich “pay their fair share in taxes” and, of course, resolution to “stand our ground” resisting President Trump.


(It’ll be interesting to see how he squares that with asking Washington for help funding new Hudson River rail tunnels.) Among the things Murphy never did mention were answers for the state’s ongoing crises — like pension reform, lowering property taxes, cutting state spending or making Jersey more business-friendly.

As we noted last week, his first real decision is whether to devote all new tax dollars to the state’s ailing pension funds — or to let them head to collapse.

But Murphy — like so many New Jersey Democratic governors before him — is promising Garden Staters they can have their cake and eat it, too. And that they no longer need suffer the supposed austerities of the Chris Christie years.

We’ll see if the former Goldman Sachs financier keeps singing from the same liberal hymn book once the bills come due.

But if recent history is any indication, New Jerseyans may soon learn the age-old truth of what’s long been known as Murphy’s Law: Anything that possiblycan go wrong, will go wrong.

Yated: Former Lakewood Planning Member: Everything I did was solely for the sake of the Residents of Lakewood

Yated Ne'eman: Sources within the township say Mr. Louie Follman was not reappointed  because of his assertive stance on the Master Plan. Mr. Follman told the Yated:

"I was very involved in making sure that the public's best interest were incorporated into the plan my passion for the matter was evident for all to see, and everything I did was solely for the sake of  the residents of Lakewood. I drove a hard line trying to sort through all the  inconsistencies in the Master Plan and doing my best to call out any potential malpractice. I am more than Happy not to sit on a board if I am not able to implement what I believe is best for the public"

The planning board is considering to replace the attorney Mr. Jackson represented the board for the last 13 years.


Mr. Jackson told the Yated that "it would be inappropriate for him to comment on an ongoing matter but shared his personal feeling It has been a privilege being the board attorney for all these years, and I am hopeful they will reappoint me".

Statement from Passaic- Clifton Kashrus Regarding Jin Restaurant

Effective January 8, 2018 PCK suspended its supervision of  Jin restaurant located at 227 Main Avenue in Passaic, NJ pending investigations of whether the amount of poultry purchased by the restaurant corresponded to the amount that it sold PCK has now concluded its investigation, which was conducted in consultaion with outside kashrus and food industry experts.......No Non Kosher food was found at the restaurant nor can PCK otherwise conclude that any non- kosher food ever entered the establishment. Rumors to the contrary are entirely unfounded. PCK has also consulted with the זקן הפוסקים  in  America Harav Dovid Feinstein shlita who has confirmed that there is no need for consumers to kasher any Kailim.

When is Tuition counted as income

Lakewood Hosing Authority (LHA) explaining that tuition for higher education is not counted as income per HUD guidelines. Pleasd note it May not be the same with other social programs. 
From the minutes of a previous LHA meeting.

 "Parental support for higher education is not counted as household income and the LHA never counts it as income. The LHA does not count parental support, scholarships, Kollel checks or qualified higher education tuition as income. However parental support for private schooling of minors is not higher education and that support is counted as income."

A new kehilla is moving into Linden, NJ yesterday was the Kvias Mezuzah at the Bais Medrash located at 130 Harvard street. The Kosson Rebbe from Boro Park Rav Yosef meir Rottenberg plans to relocate with his followers.

סגולה לפרנסה לומר בכל יום את פרשת המן. עניין זה מוזכר כבר ב'ארבעה טורים' (אורח חיים סי'שא - 'טוב לומר פרשת המן'), ומרן הבית יוסף ביאר "כדי שיאמין שכל מזונותיו באין לו בהשגחה", וב'פרישה': "בירושלמי דברכות איתא, כל האומר פרשת המן בכל יום, מובטח לו שלא יתמעטו מזונותיו". לגבי אמירת פרשת המן בשבת, פסק רבינו בעל ה'באר היטב': (סימן א'סעיף קטן ט') "וגם בשבת יוכל לומר פרשת המן". היו שנהגו להוסיף תפילות ובקשות על פרנסה לאחר אמירת פרשת המן, אולם בשבת אין לומר את התפילות. וכן ידוע ומפורסם בין החסידים בשם הרה"ק רבי מנחם מנדל מרימינוב זצוק"ל זיע"א כי סגולה מיוחדת לומר את פרשת המן (שניים מקרא ואחד תרגום) ביום שלישי בשבוע שקוראים בו את פרשת בשלח

וַיָּמֹדּוּ בָעֹמֶר וְלֹא הֶעְדִּיף הַמַּרְבֶּה וְהַמַּמְעִיט לֹא הֶחְסִיר אִישׁ לְפִי אָכְלוֹ לָקָטוּ: וּכְלוֹ בְעֻמְרָא וְלָא אוֹתַר דְּאַסְגֵּי וּדְאַזְעֵר לָא חַסִּיר גְּבַר לְפוּם מֵיכְלֵיהּ לְקָטוּ: וַיֹּאמֶר משֶׁה אֲלֵהֶם אִישׁ אַל יוֹתֵר מִמֶּנּוּ עַד בֹּקֶר: וַאֲמַר מֹשֶׁה לְהוֹן אֱנַשׁ לָא יַשְׁאַר מִנֵּיהּ עַד צַפְרָא: וְלֹא שָׁמְעוּ אֶל משֶׁה וַיּוֹתִרוּ אֲנָשִׁים מִמֶּנּוּ עַד בֹּקֶר וַיָּרֻם תּוֹלָעִים וַיִּבְאַשׁ וַיִּקְצֹף עֲלֵהֶם משֶׁה: וְלָא קַבִּילוּ מִן מֹשֶׁה וְאַשְׁאָרוּ גֻבְרַיָּא מִנֵּיהּ עַד צַפְרָא וּרְחֵשׁ רִיחֲשָׁא וּסְרִי וּרְגֵז עֲלֵיהוֹן מֹשֶׁה: וַיִּלְקְטוּ אֹתוֹ בַּבֹּקֶר בַּבֹּקֶר אִישׁ כְּפִי אָכְלוֹ וְחַם הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ וְנָמָס: וּלְקָטוּ יָתֵיהּ בִּצְפַר בִּצְפָר גְּבַר לְפוּם מֵיכְלֵיהּ וּמָה דְמִשְׁתָּאַר מִנֵּיהּ עַל אַפֵּי חַקְלָא כַּד חֲמָא עֲלוֹהִי שִׁמְשָׁא פָּשָׁר: וַיְהִי בַּיּוֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁי לָקְטוּ לֶחֶם מִשְׁנֶה שְׁנֵי הָעֹמֶר לָאֶחָד וַיָּבֹאוּ כָּל נְשִׂיאֵי הָעֵדָה וַיַּגִּידוּ לְמשֶׁה: וַהֲוָה בְּיוֹמָא שְׁתִיאָתָאָה אֲשֶׁר תֹּאפוּ אֵפוּ וְאֵת אֲשֶׁר תְּבַשְּׁלוּ בַּשֵּׁלוּ וְאֵת כָּל הָעֹדֵף הַנִּיחוּ לָכֶם לְמִשְׁמֶרֶת עַד הַבֹּקֶר: וַאֲמַר לְהוֹן הוּא דִּי מַלִּיל יְיָ שְׁבָתָא שְׁבַת קוּדְשָׁא קֳדָם יְיָ מְחָר Lakewood Shopper reports on the Turmoil at the Lakewood planning board.
A Planning Board member told the Lakewood Shopper "the board was not consulted regarding the appointment of new members and the decision was made completely by the Mayor and township committee without any input from the board members." The Planning board will have a public meeting tonight with its new members.

Schools Relax Midwinter Vacation Rules

 In previous years  Lakeeood schools, particularly the high schools were strict about mid winter vacation. Girls were not allowed to go to Florida or fly to other exotic places, the vacation was spent more local. This year one school relaxed the rules and allowed the girls to go to Miami, Orlando etc.. so long that they do so with a parent or supervised adult. Some schools with elementary and high school coordinated the dates so families can go on vacation.

Matzav Report: R Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin will attend the Tomchei Shabbos Dinner Feb 3, Novominsker Rebbe will be Guest Speaker.

  Matzav.com- Reb Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin will be returning soon to Lakewood, NJ, just a few weeks after visiting Rav Yeruchem Olshin and Rav Malkiel Kotler following his miraculous release from prison. Reb Sholom Mordechai will be visiting the city as the guest of Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood, at whose annual dinner he will participate in a special panel along with several other guests. The event will serve as an opportunity for the community to join en masse in celebrating the simcha of his release. The “Dinner Hahodaah” of Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood will take place on Motzoei Shabbos Parshas Yisro, February 3, at N’eemas Hachaim Hall.

Details of the event have been kept under wraps, but Matzav can report that the guest speaker is slated to be Rav Yaakov Perlow, the Novominsker Rebbe.


An elaborate zemiros portion of the program is being planned, including a special musical guest from Eretz Yisroel.

A section for women of the community is being arranged, so that all those who wish to participate can do so.

The connection between Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood – the renowned kupas tzedakah of the Torah city – and the Rubashkin family goes back many years, making the upcoming dinner the perfect venue for the long-awaited celebrating of his yeshuah.

The Rubashkin-Tomchei Shabbos connection spans a quarter of a century. The Rubashkin family, renowned for their many chesed activities, and Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood, the premier chesed organization serving Lakewood’s families for over 30 years, have been partners on many levels, enabling the most families to receive the maximum amount of assistance in a most dignified way. From arranging steeply discounted purchases of food items to advocating with companies to donate free items, from leveraging relationships to help meet the steep annual budget to many other acts of chesed, the Rubashkin family has been heavily involved in Tomchei Shabbos’ activities and has directly impacted thousands of Lakewood families and children.

When the idea of a Seudas Hoda’ah, to celebrate R’ Sholom Mordechai’s release from a harsh and unjust prison sentence, was  discussed, Lakewood was the city of choice, as the Lakewood community, its Rabbanim, Askanim and residents, have been vocal supporters of Reb Sholom Mordechai from the very beginning of his saga.  From the many letters of support he received from Lakewood residents to the behind-the-scenes activism spearheaded by Rabbi Pinchos Lipshutz of Yated Ne’eman together with other askanim from Lakewood and other places, Lakewood was always there for Reb Sholom Mordechai.

The dinner, which always draws a very large crowd, are preparing for an even larger-sized crowd, as multitudes of people are expected to come out to partake in this momentous occasion.

Jackson Resident files Lawsuit for Shabbos "stake out"

Jackson township held Sabbath 'stake out' of Orthodox Jews, lawsuit states- A religious gathering of Orthodox Jews was the subject of a "stake out" urged by a township council member.
In the lawsuit, Pitney Lane resident Isaac Tawil alleges that Council Vice President Rob Nixon prompted township code enforcement officers to observe Sabbath prayer services at his home on Friday nights, an activity he described as harassment.

"The repeated presence of these officers had a chilling effect, was intimidating and became a form of harassment," Tawil's lawsuit states. "Mr. Tawil was being denied his right to pray at his home by the actions of the Jackson Township code enforcement.

Enough With the made up Tznius obsession

There is a phenomenon of publicizing made up letters to the editor addressing so called "tznius" concerns in certain media outlets. Editors love these letters as it increases readership and creates buzz. These made up letters usually dont harp on a certain Halacha of tznius that is lax but they focus on a made up chumrah or some extreme made up scenario. Not only do these letters insult the intelligence of the Lakewood community but it gives fodder to those who mock our way of life. In the age of social media they get picked up fast and go viral, it gives people their daily dose of  "a crazy thing out of Lakewood". These posts and letters are nothing more than click-bate  disguised by using tznius related content. Non of these made up chumras have rabbonim who signed off on them, and are a creation of someones obsession. There is no bigger lack of tznius than using our modest way of life by publicizing  made up tznius awareness for personal satisfaction. 
A lot has been said about those who are obsessed with concern for these issues. If there are serious issues about a lack in tznius, there are other time tested approaches in dealing with it.
