Crews began construction to install s traffic light at the intersection of Pine Street and Martin Luther King Drive in Lakewood. The busy corner currently has a 3 way stop sign but traffic on Pine street is still backed up sometimes to Albert on the East and Rt 9 to the west.
For years, Lakewood residents begged town officials to install a traffic light at the busy corner but they were ignored and stonewalled. Deputy Mayor said that once Vine street opens it will clear the alleviate the traffic at that intersection and no need for a light. So far no new through streets were added, Arlington is blocked off, and motorists have no options to go North- South besides MLK, or avenue of the states. Anyone going to the 9 from Forest Park, Marc, Newberry, Treeside, PR village, Somerset Walk or Albert, goes down pine st.
There once was a temporary light put up for a few weeks but the timing was not set right and cars on MLK were backed up to John street. Hopefully now the traffic light will be set differently and ease some of the congestion improving traffic flow in the area.
