Video: Agudah Dinner to Perpetuate Legacy of Mr. Mendy Klein ז׳׳ל

Lakewood Resident Appointed Chairman of New Jersey DOE Nonpublic School Committee

New Jersey - - On Tuesday morning, Rabbi Avi Schnall, New Jersey director for Agudath Israel of America, was appointed chairman of the nonpublic school committee for the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE). The committee is comprised of nearly two dozen representatives of the nonpublic school community in the state of New Jersey, including representatives from the Catholic Conference, Christian, Muslim and independent schools. The committee meets regularly with the DOE Office of Nonpublic Schools and considers policy and regulatory decisions pertaining to nonpublic schools. The committee gives the private school community an opportunity to meet directly with government officials responsible for oversight of their schools.

Rabbi Schnall has been a member of the committee for several years and negotiated substantial improvements in special education regulations due, in part, to his participation on this committee.

Rabbi Schnall appointment as chairman will hopefully enhance his ability to advocate on behalf of students in nonpublic schools and their families.

-TAX INCREASE- Lakewood homeowners will now pay an additional $130 a year
-Board approves a Referendum in March 2019 to expand the public school buildings could cost millions more to tax payers

-Board awards Inzelbuch another 600K plus contract while the taxpayers have to pay off another loan of $28 Million dollars

- Resident questions how enrollment is going up, mentions that there are students coming from outside the district to the public schools. Attorney says its not job of the board to take attendance and will continue to educate the 6100 students enrolled.

- Resident speaks up this loan will crush the Lakewood taxpayers. How doses the state not take into account the savings from all the private school student who dont go to public school. They are saving the state 250-300 million dollars annually! These loans will continue to snowball and only compound the problem.

By Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz -  May 9, 2018
Yated Neeman
Who can remember a week such as the one that just passed? Who can ponder the loss of so many good people and not recognize that they cannot go on living their lives as they have been?

On Wednesday, Moshe Reich was in Tzefas preparing for Lag Ba’omer, joyfully hosting many people in his home on a centuries-old narrow cobblestone street, when his soul returned to its Maker. A prominent Klausenberger chosid and close friend of Arye Deri, he was well known for his engaging personality, askanus, and acts of tzedakah v’chesed. Shock spread throughout Israel and around the world.
On Thursday, Mendy Klein was in Cleveland, outside of the Hebrew Academy, a major focus of his life and philanthropy. He collapsed and was gone, a giant cut down in his prime. The shock was overwhelming as word spread across the Torah world. The reaction was similar everywhere: “Mendy Klein? What? I can’t believe it.” The energetic, life-giving supporter of Torah, yeshivos, schools, needy people, victims of abuse, and so much else had died. The man who ran away from attention and honor during his lifetime was praised and mourned following his tragic petirah.

Rav Shaul Shatzkes, who suffered a stroke a few months ago, never recovered and passed away on Thursday. He was a tremendous talmid chochom, baal kishron and marbitz Torah. He was a sheim dovor in Lakewood, where he lived and dedicated his life to Torah.

Rav Nochum Eisenstein, who served as a rov in Detroit and Lakewood, and had also been rosh kollel
in the Boston Kollel, succumbed to an illness he had suffered from for years. A unique marbitz Torah, mechaber seforim and posek, he taught, led and inspired many people. Before his illness, he authored a weekly Torah column in the Yated. A relatively young person, he was also niftar on Thursday.

Rabbi Bernard Weinberger was a phenomenal darshan, talmid chochom, and author of multiple seforim. Blessed with an engaging personality, he was also an intellectual and a leader in the field of rabbonus, serving as the longtime rov of Young Israel of Williamsburg. In his eighties, he passed away last week as well.

Accomplished, successful, and well-known leaders, each one in their own way, they paved a Torah way through the turmoil of golus, leaving behind legacies of greatness for future generations. Their passing sends us a message regarding the fragility of life and a warning to maximize the time we have.

Recognizing the value of life helps us overcome temptation, negate frivolity, and realize the important things in life. It reminds us to love our family and friends and let them know it. A person who knows the meter is running seeks to do good and spread goodness, making the world a better place. There is no time for pettiness; strife, hate and division have no place in the heart and mind of a person who knows that tomorrow he may be described in the past tense, r”l.

We currently find ourselves in the Sefirah period, when we seek to improve ourselves as we ascend daily towards the goal of receiving the Creator’s Torah. Each day, we seek another form of improvement, another way to improve our character and become a better person.

An older man had a story to tell: “I came to Eretz Yisroel during the Second World War and brought several gold bars with me. I was looking for a place to invest my gold.

“One day, I found myself on a street, known today as Rechov Chazon Ish, at the corner of Rechov Harav Dessler, and I saw the Chazon Ish taking a walk there. Since I had heard that he gave brachos and advice to people, I approached him and asked him how to invest my gold.

“He lifted his cane and pointed towards an empty hill. He said to me, ‘Reb Yaakov Halpern is going to be selling lots there. Take your gold and use it all to buy as many lots as you can afford.’

“I didn’t really know much about him and didn’t know that he was a gadol hador. I was angry at his suggestion. When he said that to me, I thought to myself, ‘What? He’s telling me to throw my gold into the sea? Into an empty desert hill?

“Out of respect, I was quiet. I said, ‘Thank you,’ and left.

“Halperin sold those lots for pennies. I took my gold and made various investments and never saw much of a return. If only I had listened to that old man, I would have become a multi-millionaire.
“Oy, if only I had grabbed those lots.”

The man told his story to Rav Nosson Einfeld, of Kollel Chazon Ish, who repeated the tale of woe to the well-known maggid, Rav Reuvein Karelenstein.

Shortly thereafter, the maggid addressed a crowd, and this is what he said:

Howell PD arrested a man who was harassing mothers and young girls at Retail stores on rt 9.
Police say that they are concerned that there may be other victims. Howell Police Chief  Andrew Kudrick  told News 12 says that he is especially concerned that female members of the Orthodox Jewish community may have been targeted. We are asking those residents if it happened, not to be embarrassed, not to be shy. Our doors are open for them,” Kudrick says. Hohsfield was charged with several counts of harassment.

There were four incidents that took place at Walmart, Target and TJ-Maxx since May 4. He says that the first incident was inside the Target on Route 9, where the suspect allegedly followed a 12-year-old
girl into the store’s swimwear section. News 12 New Jersey looked into Hohsfield’s previous criminal records and found that he’s been arrested in three other counties for similar offenses. In 1997, 2002 and 2009 he was charged and convicted for trying to lure victims into his car.

Anyone who may feel that they were victimized by Hohsfield is urged to call the Howell Township Police Department at 732-938-4111.

NJ Assembly votes to Ban Marriage in NJ for Anyone under age 18

Sefardim and Chasidim will have a hard time getting married in NJ  if Gov. Murphy signs this bill into law. Today the NJ assembly judiciary committee voted in favor of A865, the bill to ban anyone under 18 from getting married in NJ. The state of Delaware signed it into law today and is the first state to do so.

The measure simply prevents a person under age 18 from getting married in New Jersey. Currently, anyone who is not an adult may marry with permission in New Jersey. for those age 16 or 17, a parent or guardian may give the ok.
If you are under age 16, a judge must approve the marriage.

Gov Christie Vetoed it last year saying it  “would violate the cultures and traditions of some communities in New Jersey based on religious traditions.” He also called it “disingenuous” to say that teens are unable to consent to marriage, given “New Jersey law permits the very same 16 year old to obtain an abortion without so much as parental knowledge, let alone consent according to a report in NJ Spot Light Read more HERE

Kids Should Not have to be Kept Busy on Friday

$

Lately there are programs and camps geared for boys keeping them busy on Fridays in the summer months. The Friday schedule in Lakewood for boys and girls is a very short day. Girls are going to school for just about 2 hours on Friday. In some cases the buses dont get there before 9:40 and at 11:15 they are getting dismissed! Yes busing is an issue, but its not fair for the kids and for the parents who now have to shorten their Friday workday even more. Boys should not have to be bored an kept busy because they are home at 12:30 pm on a long summer Friday.

The overall Friday schedule in Lakewood should be changed. The town schedule can no longer be dictated by playgroup moros schedules or busing.
In Brooklyn, schools end on Friday during the winter at 1 o'clock. Lakewood is not a young town with couples leaving to NY on Erev shabbos. Most businesses finish Friday work day at 1:30- 2:00 pm on Friday's. Even the Yeshiva first seder is cut short on Friday because of the playgroup schedule.

Now that the Busing is no longer controlled by the BOE the schools and town leaders can focus on making Lakewood a 1:00 pm Friday instead of 11:30. Perhaps a solution is to Stagger dismissal times have the girls dismissal at 12:30 pm or 1:00 and boys dismissal at 1:30 or 2:00 pm.

A Powerful Speech at a Bris in Lakewood

from an Email sent out to friends of Renewal saving lives through kidney donation.
Special Bris Today May 11, 2018 - 26 Iyar, 5778
Dear Friend of Renewal,

This morning there was a bris (the ceremony of circumcision.) in Lakewood, NJ where the father shared the following words:

"I stand here at the bris of our son Yishai with a trembling heart. I still, am trying to wrap my head around what happened this past week.  So that all of you can understand what I am talking about let's rewind a bit.

At 6 months of pregnancy the doctors discover that both kidneys were inflamed. We davened that the doctors should be wrong. Month 7, more scans. - we start hearing all sorts of scary words - Blockage. Inflammation.  bilateral hydronephrosis posterior urethral valves. Down Syndrome. All scared, we started begging Hashem for a miracle.  Month 8 turns into 9 and all scans confirm what the original diagnosis was.
Chazal tell us that a child has 3 partners: Hashem, the father and mother. Mid 9th month I sat down with my wife and had a heart to heart conversation. We told Hashem that we accept, 100% and with love, whatever will come our way. Because we know that Hashem, as a partner, will be holding our hands throughout the process. We decided right then and there in that conversation, that we'll name our baby Yishai which means a gift. On that day decided that we "will" accept the gift no matter (how) hard it is liable to be.

מלך מלכי המלכים (G-d).
I stand here today trembling in awe and say
א-לי א-לי למה אהבתני
(G-d, why did you love me)
What did we do, to deserve so much love? Words don't do justice to describe how much we feel loved from you Hashem. The feeling is euphoric. My wife and I still cant grasp the magnitude of the Chessed (kindness) that you have done to us. Hashem, from the depths of every fiber of our body, Henny and I say "Thank you"!

The Gemarah in Pesachim 119a, notes a discussion between Yishai and Shmuel Hanavi.   Yishai said to Shmuel Hanavi"אבן מאסו הבונים היתה לראש פנה" - "The 'stone' that was despised by the builders, became the cornerstone!"

Yishai dear, the doctors declared that you are blocked as a stone. Yet right at birth through your poetic use of the power of the shower, you showed them that Hashem runs this world. You came into this world miraculously, a beautiful, healthy baby- that even has his Bris on time!!!

What did Shmuel HaNavi respond, and this case Shmuel and Henny Waldman respond   - זה היום עשה ה' - this is the day that Hashem showed all the doctors, who is the real Doctor!!!"
---------------------------------------------------
The father of Yishai is Shmueli Waldman. Shmueli donated his kidney eight years ago, in May, 2010 to a woman with special needs!

Thank you!
