NJ American Water Provisional Rate Increase Over $10 a month Beginning June 15th

$

0
Beginning June 15, 2018, New Jersey American Water is implementing provisional rates for water and wastewater service while the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) reviews the company’s rate change request. The water bill for the average residential customer using 6,000 gallons of water a month will increase approximately $5.90 per month, and the average residential wastewater bill will increase approximately $4.12 per month. These provisional rates are temporary and will remain in effect until the BPU renders its final decision on the company’s rate case, which is expected later in the year. If the approved rates are lower than the provisional rates, the company will refund, with interest, any amount billed in excess of the approved rates

New Jersey American Water’s rate request, which was filed September 15, 2017, was driven by more than $868 million in needed investment in treatment and distribution system upgrades statewide since the company’s last rate increase in 2015.

The provisional rates, which will generate approximately $75 million in additional annual revenue, will increase customer charges in each service area by approximately 12.3 percent, excluding surcharges. As a result, the water bill for the average residential customer using 6,000 gallons of water a month will increase approximately $5.90 per month, and the average residential wastewater bill will increase approximately $4.12 per month.

These provisional rates are temporary and will remain in effect until the BPU renders its final decision on the company’s rate case, which is expected later in the year. If the approved rates are lower than the provisional rates, the company will refund, with interest, any amount billed in excess of the approved rates. If the approved rates are higher than the provisional rates, there will be no retroactive adjustment to customer bills. Final approved rates may not exceed the $117 million (inclusive of tax law changes) requested by the company in its filing.

“Our rate request is based on the more than $868 million in infrastructure upgrades, including over 1 million feet of water main, to ensure reliable service to 2.7 million New Jersey residents that count on us every day,” said Deborah Degillio, President, New Jersey American Water. “Rates are based on the true cost of water and wastewater service. We continue to work hard to control our costs by operating as efficiently as possible to control our operating expenses,” she said. Degillio further noted that increases in operating expenses are not a driver of this rate increase.

New Jersey American Water customers also recently had a rate decrease as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. On April 1, 2018, most customer water rates were reduced by 5.9 percent (and 2.3 percent for former Shorelands Water Company customers). The water bill for the average residential customer using 6,000 gallons a month decreased approximately $3.36 per month ($1.00 per month for former Shorelands customers), and the average residential wastewater bill decreased between $1.49 and $5.81 per month, depending on service area. The BPU is continuing their review of the overall impact of the new tax act, and further rate adjustments are anticipated in the coming months.

More information about the company’s rates can be found online at www.newjerseyamwater.com (under the Customer Service & Billing menu, select Your Water and Wastewater Rates) or call 1-800-272-1325, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The City of Torah will be host to thousands of guests for the upcoming Yom Tov. Parents, in-laws and extended family will spend the Yom Tov of Shavuos in Lakewood. Most families stay home for shavuos and dont leave town as they do for Pesach and Sukkos.
In previous years everything was centered around the Yeshiva  from learning shavuos night to shiurim and shmuessen by the Roshei Yeshiva and mashgichim. As the town spread out far and wide and people moved to neighboring towns, the demographics have changed.

The local shuls in developments and other areas now provide full shavuos learning programs for all ages throughout yom tov.

Since this year is a 3 day yom tov, with shabbos, many people will be walking across town to eat meals at relatives and friends. The weather wont be that hot but expect rain and thunderstorms on shabbos and the second day of Shavuos. Sunday will be mostly clear a high of 81 with spotty showers. Lakewood organizations and township will supply lighting and security around town for shavuos night.

The stirring song is sung on several occasions in the Jewish calendar most prominently on Shavuos and Simchas Torah there is great debate on who composed the niggun and where the lyrics come from some attribute it to the Chazon Ish, Rav Meir Shapira, others say the vilna gaon, click HERE for more. Article in Mishpacha Magazine HERE the story behind the song. Watch this video below for a different niggun sung by Benny Frieman to the words of Kad Yasvun. כד יתבין ישראל ועסקין בשמחת התורה, קודשא בריך הוא אומר לפמליא דיליה חזו בני חביבי דמשכחין בצערא דילהון ועסקין בחדוותא דילי

Matzav- Levaya will be (approx) 11am at Alumni Bais medrash 9th and Madison,  kevurah in Lakewood.
It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Gavriel Finkel zt”l of Lakewood, NJ. Rav Finkel passed away Friday night, Erev Shavuos.

A son of Rabbi and Mrs. Yehoshua Matisyahu Finkel, Rav Finkel was one of the preeminent poskim in Lakewood, NJ, where he was renowned for his yedios haTorah and, in particular, his expertise in halacha. Yidden the world over consulted with Rav Finkel on shailos in Choshen Mishpat and other areas.

Rav Finkel’s humility and modesty matched his ahavas haTorah and breadth of knowledge, and he devoted time and effort for decades to helping those who came to him for assistance and others in trying circumstances.

Rav Finkel’s sudden passing at the start of the three-day Yom Tov has left his many talmidim and admirers, who have just learned of his petirah tonight, in shock.

Rav Finkel is survived by his devoted wife, Rebbetzin Miriam Finkel, and their family, as well as his siblings, Rabbi Yitzchok Finkel, Rebbetzin Leah Pirutinsky, Rebbetzin Rivka Tikotzky and Rebbetzin S. Rockove.

Levayah details will be posted shortly.

Gas tax in NJ Likely to Go Up Again by 3 cents

$

The 23 Cents Gas  Tax in NJ may get a tax hike again this Fall, according to this report. An increase in New Jersey’s gas tax this fall looks increasingly likely, as collections have fallen behind expectations. “I’m going to say about 3 cents, maybe. It’s a really rough, off the top of my head estimate,” Frank Haines, the Office of Legislative Services budget and finance officer, said Monday at an Assembly Budget Committee hearing.
When the nearly 23 cent per gallon increase was approved in 2016, it was done so through a formula that guarantees the state a predictable level of revenue -- $1.16 billion, on top of the existing gas tax collections that already existed at the time. Read more at NJ101.5

June 5th Lakewood Primary Write In Campaign

$

Have you ever wondered how our town could allow more building when we can’t move in dangerous traffic?!?!
Why our taxes keep going up by a large percentage every year?
It's because some people abused their power to benefit themselves and a select few.
On June 5th join us and write in:
                             LOUIE FOLLMAN and HAROLD HERSKOWITZ.
Two individuals who have proven that they care about Lakewood. Write them in place of  Menashe Miller and Bruce Stern for the Republican primary ballot.                                We can stop the insanity!
Stop the waste of taxpayer dollars!
They have each paid a price for their willingness to challenge the establishment in an effort to do what's right. We can count on them to continue fighting for us as committee men.

We can stop our town's slide! Our quality of life does not have to continue to get worse. Don't underestimate the difference you can make. Last year, almost half of the public voted for change for much less experienced candidates.  This year, let's show up in even stronger numbers, and send a message to those in power that we can and must do better.
Lakewood is our home. Not another hustling metropolis.
