The Mission of Frum Journalism

Excerpt from  article in Yated by R' Avrohom Birnbaum

"Publications with agendas on how to “update” the frum community, or that choose to interview and idolize figures who are not role models for our youth, are, to say the least, in some way going in the footsteps of “The Moment” newspaper of old and other more benign Maskil-oriented publications. It is tragic that the entire premise upon which frum journalism was established has been turned on its head, and now, the very instrument that was established to save multitudes from ideas that cool them off from

Hashem and His Torah are now being used at times to do just that – cool people off from Hashem and emunas chachomim. We should become discerning consumers when patronizing frum media". Read full article at Yated.com

Gridlock Alert James street to Shiut Again with Mid week construction

LPD alert Beginning Wednesday at 7am, James St will be shut between Williams and Sunset for construction with no access. Expected to reopen Saturday. The construction is for the traffic light that will be installed at the Williams James intersection. Township officials did not explain why this can not be done over the weekend or at night instead of during the day that inconveniences the residents and causes serious backups on Route 9 Prospect Central ave.  The township committee ignored what happened last week without even acknowledging the traffic that shut down the morning camp commute.

Last week the construction and road closure on James street shut down a main artery in Lakewood causing gridlock and traffic back ups that resulted in people sitting for hours in traffic coming late to work and camp losing money and putting people in bad moods. Now again the road is shut for 3 days even though it is bein hazmanim the town is full of people and there is no reason given why it can not be done over the weekend.

Media Coverage In First Wave of Covid tied to Vaccine Rates in Lakewood

$

Discussing the vaccination rates in Lakewood theres no mention of the 50,000 kids who are not eligible for the vaccine or the natural immunity factor but a attempt to explain the lower vaccination rates on anger with the media coverage.

Nj spotlight: Nearly half of Lakewood’s adult residents have received at least one shot, according to the latest data from the state Department of Health, but the township still has the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rate among New Jersey communities of 10,000 or more. While Lakewood is somewhat unique — it has a large Orthodox Jewish population, many of whom claim to have immunity after contracting COVID-19

Coles, the Lakewood mayor, said there is a sense of frustration in his town about how the Ocean County enclave has been the subject of regular media attention during the pandemic. At the start of the virus’ second wave in New Jersey, in October, COVID-19 cases were spiking

in Lakewood, and state officials raised concerns that the infection was spreading amid the large families and religious gatherings that are central in the community’s culture.

“There’s still an awful lot of anger in the Orthodox community about the stories that targeted them early on in the pandemic,” Coles said. Despite that, efforts continue to encourage more of Lakewood’s diverse residents to get vaccinated.

“It’s a work in progress,” Coles said, but with the persistent spread of the virus and the emergence of new variants, “there’s a sense of urgency in the community.”
