“Bingo” a Kosher Costco Concept opens in Boro Park, plans for Lakewood area store

As reported back in March HERE“Bingo” a Kosher Costco Concept which has stores in Israel under the Osher Ad label opened its first store in the USA. The Brooklyn store is located in Boro Park at the former Pathmark location at 60th street and 13th avenue. A report in Koshertoday.com says the store will target the price conscious buyers. "Although the store will be huge and spacious, it will target the price conscious and the bulk buyers, especially the many large families in the area and beyond. Industry sources told Kosher Today that the store, to be called “Bingo” has already negotiated mega deals with kosher manufacturers, including several who agreed to private label for Bingo. The store is set to have a Costco (without the membership) look rather than the appearance of the numerous high-end kosher independent stores that currently dot many Orthodox neighborhoods"

Lakewood Trump vote, irks the "elitists"

They know better. It didn't take long for the elitists and leftists among us to wag the finger at the Lakewood community for their support of Donald Trump. Trump got 72.9% of the Lakewood vote, Clinton: 23.8%. An op ed posted on Cross- Currents website just cant understand how we had the chutzpah to vote with our own minds and not listen and cow tow to the narrow mindedness of the holier than though sophisticated self appointed aristocrats. How do we as a community vote for a menuval for a person whose public persona is that of a bully etc. To quote from the op-ed: 
"the far greater concern is the outpouring of Orthodox Jewish support for Trump. It is reliably reported that seventy percent of the voters in Lakewood supported him and there are statements in the names of leading Roshei Yeshiva supporting him". 
How can we not listen to these know it all elitists? Others joined in to, even the Blogging Beach Rabbi was shocked, he was crying! The article continues:

There needs to be an explanation as to why a people who are commanded, Kedoshim Tih’yu, embraced a person who just about in every way possible has been the antithesis of sanctity. It is no answer or explanation that Hillary
Clinton was badly flawed. We had the option of voting for no candidate, as millions of Americans did, or to vote for the Libertarian candidate as millions of Americans did. Overwhelmingly, we voted for a man who in language, deed and thought violates what we are taught to believe in. This is our shame and will remain our shame.

Additionally, he explains the planing board can not deny an application due to the poor infrastructure in town if the applicant is not asking for any variances.

Lakewood, NJ Board Of Education Public Meeting 11/17/2016 6:30 PM at 855 Somerset Avenue meeting Agenda HERE

Lakewood township will pay for courtesy busing of public school kids for next 3 years $1.6 million per year from taxpayer money.
 -Resolved, that the Board of Education hereby approves the agreement with the Township of Lakewood for public school courtesy busing for the 2016-17 school year through the 2018-2019 in accordance with the terms and conditions thereof.

- Item H #4-Approval to award a parental contract to transport for busing  the parents of Lakewood student in the amount of $15,919.20 

-Item I -Move that the Board of Education approve the purchase of Bridgestone vehicle tires for the Student Transportation Department for the 2016-2017 school year from Edwards Tire Co., cost not to exceed $62,861.35. 

- Item J -Move  that  the  Board  of  Education  approve  the  purchase  of  fuel  from  the  Township  of Lakewood for the District’s Student Transportation and Buildings & Grounds Departments in  accordance with N.J.S.A.18A:18A-5(b) for the 2016-2017 school year in an amount not to 
exceed $110,000. (11-000-270-615-00-0000 & 11-000-262-610-00-0000)  

- Item L- amended agreement with Sodexo ($3 million dollars a year) for custodial services at Piner elementary building. 

-O.  Recommend that the Board of Education award the renovation of Lakewood High School Auditorium to K Sound, LLC of Monroe Township at a fixed cost of $39,842.00. This project will include the removal of existing lighting equipment, re-wiring of the Auditorium, and the 
installation and programming of new lighting controls.

BDE: Rav Zvi Aharon Karmel zt”l

Matzav.com It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Zvi Aharon Karmel zt”l of Flatbush, Brooklyn. He was 59 years old. Rav Zvi was a beloved R”M at Yeshivas Novominsk, where he was marbitz Torah for years.  Levaya in Novominsk yeshiva in BP 12pm, Kevurah in Lakewood.
A talmid muvhak of Rav Nachum Partzovitz zt”l at Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim, Rav Zvi was one of the first talmidim at Yeshiva
Gedola of Passaic, NJ, under Rav Meir Stern and learned by Rav Berel Soloveitchik zt”l in Yeshivas Brisk in Yerushalayim. Several years ago, Rav Zvi was struck with a dreaded illness and since then battled valiantly. At one point, he recovered significantly enough to return to teach at Yeshivas Novominsk, where the talmidim welcomed him back at an emotional gathering.

Last night, Rav Zvi attended the wedding of his nephew, Avrohom Yitzchok Karmel, son of his brother, Rav Menashe Karmel, at Ateres Chana Hall in Lakewood. Rav Zvi returned home after the wedding and retired for the night. Unfortunately, he never woke up.

Family and friends have been plunged into mourning, as they remember an exalted talmid chochom and yorei Shomayim, who was meurav im habriyos and always maintained simchas hachaim and unwavering emunah and bitachon. His unremitting kindness and warm demeanor endeared him to people, who basked in his positivity and purity of heart.

The levaya will be held today at Yeshivas Novominsk, located at 1690 60th Street, at the corner of 60th Street and 17th Avenue, in Boro Park, Brooklyn. Kevurah will follow in Lakewood, NJ.

Rav Zvi is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Dvasha Karmel; his siblings, and his children and grandchildren, bnei and bnos Torah following in his ways.

A baby was born this past Friday to Rav Zvi’s son and daughter-in-law; the bris is slated to be held tomorrow.

Questioned about Donald Trump's White House pick of Stephen Bannon that he has anti semitic views, Lakewood community leaders tell the APP"I don’t think the voters bought into the narrative that the campaign in any way was anti-Semitic, nor that Steve Bannon was anti-Semitic," said Rabbi Aaron Kotler, president and chief executive officer of the Lakewood-based Beth Medrash Govoha yeshiva. The article also discusses the large votes for Trump in Lakewood "in Lakewood, it's not a surprising number," said Rabbi Avi Schnall, director of Agudath Israel of America's New Jersey office. "They confiscated my property and shouldn't be trusted," said Levy, who lives in Lakewood, New Jersey. "I will never use their services again."AP 
The story was first posted on DansDeals where Google has suspended the accounts of users for violating its terms and conditions. Several people who recently bought Google's new Pixel phone on behalf of a New Hampshire dealer are now suffering that punishment after the company detected their online purchases and judged they violated its terms of service.
 Users were locked out of their gmail accounts and other google related services. The story went Viral in the national media and eventually Google relented and restored the accounts. read more HERE

Why such a short school day?

The Friday schedule in Lakewood for some of the girls schools is getting shorter and shorter. Girls are going to school for just about 1 hour on Friday. The buses dont get there before 9:40 and at 11:15 girls are getting dismissed! Yes busing is an issue, but its not fair for the kids and for the parents who now have to shorten their Friday workday even more. Something has got to give. The overall Friday schedule in Lakewood should be changed.
