What a difference a few hours make. From a gorgeous shabbos afternoon weather in the mid 60's temps plummeted to the 30's with a hail storm and possible mix of rain and snow. From NJ.com Howell Mayor William Gotto isn't happy about "absolutely disgusting" comments he said were made on social media about a controversial affordable housing project owned by an Orthodox Jewish group. Lakewood township now encouraging public to attend masterplan committee meetings after public outcry

 It was in mid July when a reporter (here)walked in on a subcommittee meeting that was taking place in private and refused to leave when asked to. The reporter told the committee they are violating state law by meeting in closed session and are in violation of the open meetings act by not letting the public know. The meeting was called,
 Now Lakewood township reversed its decision and is openly reaching out and encouraging the public to attend the meetings. The next transportation subcommittee meeting will take place tomorrow. the Township posted this on its website:
 "The Transportation Subcommittee of the Master Plan Advisory Board will meet on Nov 22 at 5:30pm in the Court Room of the Lakewood Township Municipal Building. This subcommittee is tasked
with recommendation for traffic and circulation improvement.
Public attendance is encouraged. Participants are asked to pre-type their suggestions/comments to be handed into the chairman."

Rare manuscript published in honor of a chasunah in Lakewood

At a wedding last night in Lakewood guests received a special gift. A sefer was published in honor of the simcha, based on an extremely rare manuscript of Rabbi Moses Isserles' (The Rama) Haggaaos to the Rambam's Moreh Nevukhim. Published for the first time ever.

Officials shift blame on Lakewood traffic

 An article in The Voice of Lakewood discusses the Traffic situation in Lakewood. Residents from  across town were interviewed about the traffic in their areas. Township officials too, gave their two cents, but ignored and left out the real factors, instead, they blame the state  the county or other govt red tape. No one took blame for vacating streets that were designed to have a proper grid with streets leading into one another. No one mentioned the through streets that were closed off such as Arlington, Kennedy, streets off Pine and Oak that should have been open to through traffic. No one mentioned that high density that is adding thousands of cars to streets that are not built for it. No one mentioned that the much needed light by Pine street and MLK should be put up, or the traffic light that's already installed on Pine and Avenue of the states is still not activated because of special interest. But, we are told that our elected officials are working very hard and doing all they can to alleviate the problem. Its typical political double talk pretend you care while you look the other way and blame others for what you have created.

Lakewood residents get reassessment letters Property Taxes shoot up

Lakewood homeowners received their new tax bill following the reassessment and shockingly but not surprisingly Taxes have gone up a significant amount. Homes were assessed to reflect current market values in many cases of inflated home prices. To sofen the blow township officials claim they may lower the tax rate to even things out, buy that has not happened in a while. BOE taxes and Fire district taxes went up this year too. The Fire dept is asking for another increase next month. The big question continues to be asked WHER IS ALL THE MONEY GOING???? So many new homes built bringing in new ratables why is there not enough money?
