Lakewood Weather Update from Lakewood 732.com
Welcome back all to another winter. As we can tell from outside, winter has finally started. Yes, there is storm to watch for this Saturday. Before going crazy just have in mind we are NOT at our final solution, things can and will change. Until last night models were showing that most of the precipitation will stay off shore. Lasts nights models started suggesting that a westward trend, towards like is a very possible scenario. Indeed today mot models are showing something nice to hit our region. I will post some maps just because why not. Just have in mind things will change.
As of now we can get anywhere from 1-6 inches. I will update as new data comes in!

Lakewood Master Plan Adopted 3-1

The Lakewood township approved and voted in favor of the master plan. Ray Coles, Mike Delia and Menashe Miller voted yes. Issac Akerman voted NO Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein was absent from the meeting one resident commended him for recusing himself because of a conflict of interest. Prior to vote Mayor Coles said the township made sure to be on the same page as the planning board and will continue to work with the Planning board  to make sure the  concerns of the community are addressed.
A resident spoke passionately to the committee begging them to do what is right for the quality of life of the town. It is very obvious that those who came and spoke up in favor had a personal interest and rightfully so since its money for them. But the other 99% of Lakewood is opposed to this master plan.
By voting yes you will be raising taxes on the citizens of Lakewood. We will hold each of you accountable at the next elections. Mayor Miller was confronted why last year he said No more density we are full to capacity what changed? A point was made about the lies that were perpetuated throughout the meetings that we need the growth for our children while all they are doing is going to Brooklyn telling them to move to Lakewood.
Residents brought up concerns about the legality with tying the traffic improvements to the master plan. Regarding the impact fees the mayor said they are working on an ordnance that will cover the entire town not only a few sections, but the impact fees will be in place as soon as possible. One resident asked the committee members if they read through the master plan report some members responded that they did not see the entire report. Another complained that NOTHING HAS CHANGED Traffic is insane taxes have doubled and families cant afford their mortgage how can we live??
Another resident pointed out there are over 100 car accidents per week in Lakewood, the town simply cant handle the over building. Widening roads wont help. Some pointed out that since the ordnance was changed between readings it should be pushed off and more time should be given to review it.
Its disheartening to hear that members of the committee only received the ordnance less than 24 hours before the vote, said one resident. Its a rush to Judgement that will only create more problems he asked please lets take our time and get it right.

Lakewood's Day of Infamy

TBL-At the Township Committee meeting tonight, 3 committeemen made the decision to drastically decrease the quality of life for all of Lakewood's residents. After their attempt to make the Master Plan even worse than it is already was caught and halted, they slunk back and put together an  ordinance that matches the Planning Boards Master Plan with no explanation for why they tried to sneak in bad changes. Regardless, the Master Plan is still a disaster for Lakewood. It will add thousands of houses to already congested roads. It is the exact opposite of what Lakewood needs right now. While Lichtenstein wisely stayed away from the meeting, numerous OPRA requests show that he had a heavy hand in influencing the Master Plan....vihameivin yavin.
Akerman wisely chose to vote for what the residents of Lakewood want.

Coles, Delia and Miller. I have no kind words for them. They all know 100% that this is a terrible Master Plan and yet they all voted for it because Aaron Kotler has commanded them to. Though Delia squirmed visibly, he meekly voted yes since he was told by his handlers that he must do so. This plan is directly against the interest of the residents of Lakewood but the powerful connected developers have stolen the ears of the township committee and the regular simple residents have been completely ignored.

They claim that there are differing views and that some want density and some don't. Over the course of the last year, at dozens of public meetings, hundreds of people spoke up against density. a small number of people spoke in favor of density. We have tracked and reviewed those meetings and have discovered that every single speaker who spoke in favor of increased density was either a builder, developer, family member of a developer or someone in the industry that profits from increased development.

Lakewood at the White House Chanukah Party with President Trump

Over 300 Guests were invited to attended the  White house Chanukah party hosted by President Donald Trump and the First Lady. See Video HERE Lakewood, NJ philanthropist and Republican activist Mr. Rich Roberts was there along with Lakewood resident Mr. Duvi Honig of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce. Rabbi Meir Soleveichick  a Orthodox Rabbi lit the Menorah together with the presidents grandchildren. In an interview with The NY Times Mr. Honig said he said he believed the White House had focused on inviting allies and “new kids on the block” versus people who had been invited every year in the past.

“The president’s making a nice statement recognizing how he’s judging success,” said Mr. Honig, who recently returned from a trip to Israel with the former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci. “He’s an investor. He sees where the return is.” Mr. Honig, who took photographs with Mr. Pence and Mr. Adelson, said he was impressed with Mr. Trump’s “calm, confident” demeanor at the White House. “He wasn’t bragging about Jerusalem,” Mr. Honig said. “He said it was the right thing to do. He showed America that we can lead and make a controversial decision.”

The Drasha Addressed to Napoleon Bonaparte

The Drasha Addressed to Napoleon Torah.org
Yosef found himself in the dungeon together with Pharaoh’s wine butler (Sar HaMashkim). He interpreted for him his dream: “The three clusters are three days. In another three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and will restore you to your post and you will place Pharaoh’s cup in his hand as was the former practice when you were his cupbearer.” [Bereshis 40: 12-13]
Yosef then added the following words: “If only you would think of me (ki im zechartani) with yourself when he benefits you, and you will do me a kindness, if you please, and mention me to Pharaoh, then you would get me out of this building.” [Beresis 40:14].

The words “ki im zechartani” give the impression that Yosef is giving this dream interpretation SO THAT the Sar HaMashkim should remember Yosef to Pharaoh. This additional statement, introduced by the words “ki im zechartani,” seems like a somewhat inappropriate insertion by Yosef. They are not part of the dream.
We would understand if Yosef appended a personal request for a favor to his interpretation of the dream and would have said, “By the way, I would appreciate it if…” However, this is not the way Yosef expressed it. Yosef makes it sound like the Wine Butler is getting out of jail SO THAT he will be able to intervene with Pharaoh in gaining Yosef’s release from prison.
Rav Yaakov Moshe Kalefsky, zt”l, once told me the following incident. When Napoleon had achieved one of his major military victories, he threw a party and asked all the assembled to say a toast. Everyone got up and said a few words but they left Napoleon unsatisfied. Napoleon had a close connection with the Jews. He knew that in this town there was a Rabbi. He told his servant to go summon the Rabbi to the party to say a few words on the occasion of his victory.
The Rabbi was awakened in the middle of the night by Napoleon’s servant and was brought in the chariot of the king to the banquet. Napoleon requested that he give a speech — on the spot — in honor of the occasion.
What does a Rabbi know from politics? What does a Rabbi know from military campaigns? But a Rabbi knows the Parsha of the week. It happened to be Parshas Vayeshev. The Rabbi explained to Napoleon “pshat” (the simple interpretation) of the above-cited pasuk.
The Rabbi said that when a simple person commits a crime and is indicted, prosecuted, and convicted of the crime, he can always appeal. But when an important person commits a crime and is indicted and prosecuted then his chances of appeal are far less. Why is that? In those corrupt times, the only people prosecuted were the downtrodden in society. The legal system did not start up with the elite of society. They only started up with those who could not defend themselves.
If they are already indicting and prosecuting and convicting an important person, they must have the goods on him so badly that it was simply impossible to look the oth er way. The person must be as guilty as sin. Appeals will be worthless. If he were not guilty, they would not have started up with him in the first place. But sometimes, even for an important person, an appeal can help.
But what happens if a minister in the government is indicted and convicted? What are his chances that he can appeal and be successful? Slim to none. Governments are hesitant to uncover their own corruption. If they are already prosecuting and convicting him he must be so guilty that appeals will have virtually no chance of success.
For a minister who was convicted to be returned to the same position of power that he previously held is literally impossible. This never happens.
Yosef spelled this out to the Sar HaMashkim. “Listen, you were guilty. You were convicted and you served time. But you are going to be restored to your original position and serve wine to the king again. That is miraculous. It can only be happening for one reason – s o that you will be able to remember me to the king. The Almighty wants to use you as the instrument for my release from prison.”
In other words the “ki im zechartani” [so that you mention me…] is indeed part of the explanation of the dream. This is the only reason that such a thing can happen.
The Rabbi then turned to Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France, and said: “Napoleon you have met military success the likes of which have not been seen since Alexander the Great. Why did you merit such success? You have merited it because you have been good to the Jews. You have extended freedoms to them that they never had in Europe. That is why all these successes have come your way. Whenever you are blessed with success, now and in the future, you should remember: ‘ki im zechartani’ – it is only because you have been good to the Jews in the past and so that you can be good to the Jews in the future.”

Vaad Trying to Walk back From Bad Apples Statement

$

After throwing innocent residents under the bus calling them bad apples and  basically pleading guilt on an entire community, the vaad is trying to sing a different tune now. Too late the damage has been done.

“From a legal viewpoint, we look at everybody as being totally innocent until proven otherwise,” he said. “From a religious viewpoint, people that have made mistakes, they got themselves into trouble. Our attitude is you correct your mistakes and move on and prove yourself and move on.”

From NJ101.5 LAKEWOOD — Struggling families are entitled to apply for public assistance benefits. But everyone has to follow the law.
Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberg, a member of the Lakewood Vaad — a local Orthodox Jewish council serving as a bridge to other government agencies — said since the arrests, residents now have a greater awareness about the pitfalls welfare programs. There’s also been a greater effort to make sure that people who are applying for the programs are filing the proper paperwork and making sure that they qualify.
Weisberg said that seeing their friends and neighbors arrested has scared people from applying to programs that they are entitled to. He said in a community where there are people of “extremely limited means,” to not apply for programs they need for fear of legal issues “would be a tragedy.”
Lakewood has one of the state’s highest concentrations of people on public assistance.  Out of the 43,571 children in Lakewood, 21,600 of them receive government benefits, according to a U.S. Census estimate from 2015.
Following the high-profile arrests, the state announced an amnesty program to encourage people who may have wrongly applied for benefits to come forward and avoid criminal convictions. State officials held  a meeting at Toms River High School North to educate the community about the program, but got a much smaller turnout than they had hoped for.
A spokesperson for the state Comptroller’s Office said information on the amnesty program will not be available until after the deadline to apply passes on Dec. 12.
Weisberg said he has heard of a “modest response” to the amnesty program. He attributed the smaller turnout of about three dozen people to the way it was organized and presented.
“The timing, the topic, the location, all of that was off and I don’t look at that as any indication that people weren’t interested,” he said. “People, even if they have legitimate questions, are not interested in showing up in a school auditorium with cameras outside. It was just a bad setting for that particular program.”
Nevertheless, Weisberg said he has seen a “heightened awareness and heightened interest and people really want to do the right thing.”
Weisberg also said the arrests and the legal process has not torn the community apart.
“From a legal viewpoint, we look at everybody as being totally innocent until proven otherwise,” he said. “From a religious viewpoint, people that have made mistakes, they got themselves into trouble. Our attitude is you correct your mistakes and move on and prove yourself and move on.” read more at NJ1015
